JPS Hebrew-English TANAKH

Good purchase.I only can read 1 Hebrew word: God's name, Jehovah. I can easily pick it out and highlight it in the Hebrew text. Sadly, the English version just says God. But I'm so happy to see for myself that the tetragrammatin is there. It justifies my belief the He has a name as well as a title.Yes, the print is tiny, but that's what reading glasses are for.

This is a beautiful and compact tanakh that I keep in my living room in case I want to read and follow along with the week's parashah. I wanted one with both English and Hebrew because I think the Hebrew portion is important even though I'm not very good at reading or comprehension for biblical Hebrew. This is a very nice book, compact and very thick, you need to take care of it because it's not hardcover, but it helps me if I want to read, study, and learn. Also sometimes when I am bored or doing something out of habit (TV/computer) I open this book and start reading randomly and it just feels better to refocus and recenter (I also always learn something). I was following the parashah by reading mainly online and I'm glad I bought this tanakh because reading a physical book feels more calming and special these days.

Very happy with this book. The print is small, but I need 1.25 strength reading glasses to read and I can see to read this print just fine. With the Hebrew symbols, a magnifying card (magnifying bookmark) will be a useful companion.It's thick, but I never intended to literally put it in my pocket. It'll fit in a backpack or purse nicely. It has reference notations on the bottom (English) which is very helpful.I got mine on sale, but I would have paid full price for this. I saw a review where someone's book was printing right to the binding. My book came unflawed and everything is well centered.Very pleased.

The quality is excellent. The text itself is ancient, as it includes the original Hebrew glyphs. I grew up with the KJV of the Old Testament. This is a nice basis for comparison as the KJV claims to be a word for word translation of the original Hebrew and Aramaic text. I’ve come to a bias towards the prose of the KJV, but this version is just as, if not more powerful in its words. I can provide no input on the Hebrew and Aramaic text contained in the book, because I have yet to learn those languages. That is another reason for purchasing the book as it allows for practice. This is where the book falls a little short. I can read the English just fine, but Hebrew seems to use dots and small markings for the designation of vowel sounds - for me it is impossible to read without a magnifying apparatus of some sort. My phone camera works well for this, so I simply cannot complain. I can take this book everywhere. Most bibles are cumbersome. This was meant to be compact and accomplishes this goal perfectly. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the Tanakh.

This "pocket" version of the Tanakh represents a good value.It is small in terms of width and height, but its thickness make it unusable as a "pocket" book. It would fit nicely into a briefcase without taking up too much room.The book is printed on good quality paper but the plasticized cardboard cover, once bent to the open position, doesn't want to go easily back to the closed position. Like most paperbacks, it wants to lie flat with the cover sticking straight up in the air.My vision is 20/20, even though I use cheaters with a light prescription to read fine print. In the case of this version of the Tanakh, I definitely need my cheaters to read the scripture, because the print is very small.Next time, I think I'll buy a version that's a bit bigger by height and width and not quite so thick and that has bigger print.My negative comments notwithstanding, it DOES represent good value and is very usable for the purpose for which it was intended.
