Good book for anyone who desires to Look at the ...
Good book for anyone who desires to Look at the difficulty we all have when we begin to truly intend to make serious changes in our lives. We first have to find the courage to simply LOOK at the fact that our life is not working in the way we desire, then step back and seriously begin the inquiry as to WHY. Not with judgment, blame, shame, or attack, but with the light held firmly in our mind that we Believe that there IS a better way, and that we will with courage and perseverance allow the old ways to fall away, and to adopt new ways of meeting the challenges before us. We can't solve the problems if we are afraid to look at them, and identify them. It is a liberating journey and one that everyone embarks upon at some point . This book is only one of many that are availably to us. As we unravel the mind from the old.......We clear the mind for the new. If only one thing we learn from any book guides us to deeper understanding and deeper love for ourselves and this journey we are all on....... We WIN. Don't give up !! You are SO WORTH IT !!! Blessings and Love.

Good lessons for kids from chaotic childhoods
I'd heard about this book for years from advice columns like Carolyn Hax's, and when I finally bought it and read parts of it, it really hit home. In fact, I'm having some trouble reading it all because it's bringing up some tough emotions! My dad was an alcoholic, and my childhood was chaotic and full of gaps in my learning -- especially of good people skills. This book seems to cover a lot of what I had to learn the hard way over the course of way too many years. I wish I'd read it in my 20s instead of my 60s! For example, how do you say no when you've been well trained to be a people pleaser? This book can help, and I highly recommend it -- especially if you're in your 20s! :)

Very Basic
This book is very, very basic. It may be helpful for those starting from square one.It focuses on a lot of social skills and goes into great detail. For me, it seemed too basic and the skills were very obvious.I do like the challenges and homework assignments provided— it gives you a way to actively use the lessons learned.

Basic lifeskills in simple language.
A good how-to book of life and social skills for anyone who feels inadequate or unfamiliar with the basics. It touches on how to have a conversation and be more sociable, how to ask for what you want, and how to respond to requests and criticism. Some skills may seem simple on paper, but it's always good to have them laid out in simple terms, to help remind oneself to put them into practice.

Highly recommended
I had heard about this book and the author numerous times before I bought the book. Advice columns recommend it frequently when they are guiding letter writers to more assistance beyond the scope of their columns and for good reason. The author explains behaviors, instructs on boundary setting and points her readers to a safer, saner life path.

Rather Unhelpful for Me, but a Good Book for an Inexpienced Audience
This is a nice book for the right reader. I am elderly so through my life's experience I had already learned most, if not all, of this book's suggestions. I do think for a younger inexperienced reader this could be very valuable. I will pass it on to help someone else.

Great book full of ways to correct things I learned growing up!
I love this book. Unfortunately the seller did not send this version of the book (i did not receive what is in the picture). I received a version with much smaller type. The book itself, content wise is amazing! I read a copy from the library (the one pictured, which has larger font). As an Adult Child, I found this book very helpful. It gives great suggestions and exercises to practice the skills. It is complete and well written. I am very thankful for this book. Many books only point out the common behaviors we learn growing up in a dysfunctional family and this one is dedicated to giving actual ways to overcome those behaviors.

Excellent book for ACOAs. I highly recommend.
Excellent book. It teaches good life skills in a very readable way. It speaks to those raised in a home where there was alcoholism or addiction in a supportive way so that ACOAs do not feel shame or embarrassment for not having already obtained these skills. Very helpful. I lend it out regularly to ACOAs I come across in my line of work. They are grateful for the information it contains.
