Don't Know Much About American History: A Fascinating Illustrated Question-and-Answer History for Children (Ages 8-12) (Don't Know Much About...(Paperback)) Review: HISTORY IS BORING RIGHT, well you could be wrong. - HISTORY IS BORING RIGHT, well you could be wrong. To sit down and read all about the actions of one person or another could be boring, but Kenneth Davis has taken that same history and made it interesting. He tells the History of different subject in such a way that you shake your head and wonder just how things could happen that way. Listening to history, or the highlights of history as he presents it can cause you to shake your head and wonder just what people where thinking, or WHERE they thinking about some of the things that have happen, and how did the stories that we hear today get started. ALL of Kenneth C. Davis books are well worth the investment not only to learn the important parts of history, but to shake your head at some of the stupid people who have been making all the history before our time Review: The author's philosophical asides are refreshing and informative - Reviewing the panorama of American history in a test prep class I teach, an adult student whined, "Why does everything have to be so complicated?" Well...it just IS. This book is an excellent place to begin laying a framework for understanding something about the United States and how it got this way. I find the author's philosophical asides refreshing and informative, though some with a conservative bias take offense to them. Two I particularly appreciate and return to again and again: "History teaches us that our actions have consequences." What better lesson could young people--or those of any age--learn? If only our politicians believed such a thing... "Americans have an affinity for simple solutions to complex problems." The presidential election of 2016 offered many examples to illustrate this simple, daming statement. Immigration problem? Build a wall on your southern border. Then beat your head against it.

My students like how he tells an interesting story
I use this to supplement my 7-8 grade U.S. history class. My students like how he tells an interesting story, much better writing than a textbook. This version is very well suited to my student's age range. Great! Plus, he uses humor and sarcasm which my students like.

Removes the boring from US history
Not a scholarly exposition of US history, but a fun way to get the essential facts. Great for youth and adults who are bored with the thought of learning history. If all US citizens knew history even at this level, our choice of public officials would be very different.

Great book. Get this and the audio companion that goes with it. Read/listen to this book and you'll get a better understanding of history. This was a very helpful supplement when I was teaching lessons on the Civil War and the Great Depression (to name a couple).

Very nice to review American history
If you're like me and don't remember much from American history classes in school, this book will help! I always hated history and didn't retain much of what I learned, so now that I'm trying to teach my kids I needed a refresher course. This book hits the highlights of history and does a great job of explaining everything. I feel like I've learned a lot.

The book arrived quickly and I immediately fell in love with the read-ability of this book! I am trying to improve my understanding of several subjects, and this book was a fantastic addition to my current studies! I recommend this to anyone who doesnt have a lot of free time to read dense textbooks.
