C# 8.0 and .NET Core 3.0 – Modern Cross-Platform Development: Build applications with C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework Core, ASP.NET Core, and ML.NET using Visual Studio Code, 4th Edition eBook : Price, Mark J.: desertcart.co.uk: Kindle Store Review: Addictive great to read - This book is amazing to read from back to front although i have not fully read it all yet it is a very good read to get you start with a modern approach to building many different applications in .Net and as a Professional application developer i am glad to be reading this book and how to build different applications. My only complaint that into does not go into loads of depth for all the topics cover but there are lot of topics to cover so you can expect a litte depth experience missing . But done let this discourage you can research more information all off them . Overall great read so far and a good buy for any level of developer Review: A resonable guide - A few areas where skimmed so lightly as to not be worth including but on the whole I found this to be a useful and informative book.

A resonable guide
A few areas where skimmed so lightly as to not be worth including but on the whole I found this to be a useful and informative book.

Solid introduction to C# 8 and Net Core 3
I tried many book samples on Kindle for the last 8 weeks. They usually start very promising, then either fall out of touch (using old technologies that are disappearing), get too complicated and I lose track (with very little explanation of what is going on), or full of critical typo mistakes that make any code non-working. So, that's NOT what this book is. In addition, it has a very clear and comprehensive plan of getting you there. There is no assumption that one is proficient in C# (or why buy the book). It goes through useful doable examples,. Only thing I would say, use Visual Studio rather than Visual Studio Code, due to the complexity of MS updating and versioning of .Net and EF etc. VS 2019 takes care of these automatically, and makes all code easy to edit and run. In my humble opinion, and I am only 25% through the book, I have gained a lot of info and insight into C# and .Net, including things like assessment of code and testing, which I used to do in a more amateurish way before. I will update my review when I finish the book.

Very detailed and recommended book
Absolutely brilliant, i have been learning C# and have done some video courses and then brought this book. The book goes into detail whichbis brilliant for me. It explains things very well and gives you an idea of when theybwere implemented which add to the experience so you identify how new a feature is. Online courses are good but this book showed me loads of new things that wernt taught the author gives his opinion on somethings also if some techniques are not used often or if theybare frowned upon. It has a good practices section under each topic which tells younwhat you should do. I really like this book it has the detail you would want while teaching the content quickly. It gives reference links for further reading whichbos handy.

This is a good book, but
It's great as a reference book. Don't get this unless you have experience programming as complete novices will have a very hard time with it

Ideal for those who have some programming experience and want to learn C#
I needed to fast track my skills for C# to program a Chatbot using Microsoft Framework. Having some experience with previous languages this was the ideal book to get me up to speed. Would highly recommend it to those wanting to get a grip on this language and the pace is good and continues to build on previous examples and chapters, good source code available also.

I got no use from this book
As an expert programmer, architect, project management consultant, who has used asp.net for a long time, who is being forced to look at this new stuff and scrap the tried and trusted asp.net 4.x of old and pushed to use .net core (.net 5 soon - not even finished) because its fractionally faster, I got very little out of this book. It just to basic. Hopefully someone will release a book that can create a fully working, beautiful, scalable and stylish application in the new frameworks that one can use. If your a beginner and you end up writing basic apps like this, then God help you. All of these books of late, show very little new real features (maybe because the newer language is not complete or too new for the author) or maybe being fairer to the author, has to cover all of the different options (blaser, razor, .net core 3, mvc, web services alternative development, angular, jquery, new c sharp code features that no will ever use, more open source apps etc etc) that will likely be scrapped in a few years (maybe that's why the book is limited). Apparently reading this book .net of old is too slow? Rubbish we have 10,000+ users using our .net apps and they load in less than a second, also apparently the original .net was written to help just vb programmers (this is not fully correct, the original .net was also used to help programmers move from solid applications like delphi, and the crappy old classic asp (with better separate web pages to separate c sharp code) and this was also created to stop the javascript hell, by not having to write anymore javascript nor command line programming, but somehow we seem to be going back to these things i.e. it looks like asp is back with c sharp and html together again, how the future echos the past and repeats itself). Personally I prefer to change from one technology when the platform changes i.e. mainframes to dos to windows to web to web 2.0, I hate having to start again for no good reason, but hey if this is the future then I will embrace it. If you are a book writer then please create a book that builds fully working demonstrations that allow great developers to see what if anything, are the benefits and or young developers to learn something, otherwise everyone will create the same basic looking, slow apps that do nothing. Maybe these latest book are basic because no one is really pushing these new technologies much or maybe the new technologies of .net core is too limited and needs more refinement or microsoft is offering to much choice to quickly or maybe the real developers are still using .net of old or have gone elsewhere because they cannot work out what the fragmented future will be, maybe its all of these. Personally I do not care about open source or closed off systems, I just want the best system and a system that works, give me a massive competitive advantage, is the future and everyone is using it. I also prefer to pay for peoples time, free means it may not be supported in the future. Sorry to the author, its probably not your fault.

Très intéressant et ne fait pas des dizaines de pages de blabla de remplissage. Mais néophyte s'abstenir. Intéressant pour se mettre à jour si on est déjà dev.

I am currently halfway through the book (it is a lot!) No nonsense, straight to topic textbook. It is packed with information and gives you an excellent guideline to learn all you need to know about C# 8.0 and .NET Core 3.0 and how to use it to develop apps. The title is very very long but its really all in there. You might need a very basic understanding of "C#/programming in general" to not feel overwhelmed by its pace, BUT Everything you need to know IS covered.

As an amateur developer with a desire to become familiar and proficient with C# and .NET Core 3, I found this book to meet my needs and expectations. It provide thoroughly clear explanations of the language and its underlying technology. Its tutorial method is straightforward with good examples and exercises that are easy to follow and that are explained fully but concisely. The chapter organization seems at first to include too many topic, but after a little time they all make sense together. There are a large number of "Good Practice" comments and "More Information" guides that provides enhancements for even better understanding of coding methods and details for understanding the language better. While the screen shots are a bit small (not easy to read in dim light), the author provides web links to those shots early in the book so that they can be viewed more clearly. For those new to the Visual Studio Code IDE, this is good advice given. All in all, this book is superb for a beginner using C# or someone like me with a reasonably good programming background but desiring to enhance ones skills for modern applications.
