Magic Flavors Freshly Ground Poppy Seeds 20 oz 2-pack (10 oz per pouch) Ground to Order

This is the first time in decades I have seen ground poppy seeds. First thing I made was poppy seed/orange Danish and it was divine. You can't really grind poppy seeds correctly at home and the canned filling is way too sweet. It was like being in the kitchen with my great-grandmother again. The flavor is remarkable.

I have been looking all over to find someone who sells natural and freshly ground poppy seeds. (If poppy seeds aren't fresh, they can turn rancid quickly and your whole dish is ruined.) These poppy seeds were clearly freah and tasted amazing. They arrived much quicker than anticipated and were sealed really well. I already used them and the result was amazing. I can only recommend! The seller knows their product well.

I was so excited to order these to save time grinding poppyseeds for my annual poppyseed coffee cakes. When I poured them into my pot to cook them, they basically looked whole and not ground like when I grind them myself, but I decided to trust they were ground and cook them anyway. I added my milk and sugar and cooked like I normally do, and it was very obvious they were not going to come together and form the “paste” it usually does when the ground poppyseeds absorb the milk as they cook. This was a separated gloppy mess. I was going to throw it all out, but decided as a last ditch effort to put them in my Vitamix mixer, and in batches ground the milk/poppyseed mixture until it looked like it should have in the first place. They also don’t taste fresh. So much for trying to save time. I do not recommend this product if you are looking for freshly ground poppyseeds, because they are not ground by any standard. They also taste off to me like they are almost rancid.

I bought it twice and both times the ground poppy seeds were great. Some reviewers are not happy, claiming it is not fresh and bitter tasting. Poppy seeds in general, have a bit of a bitter taste, and when the seeds are ground, the taste gets more pronounce, that is what so special about it. The seeds I got, were fresh, and I will buy it again, if the seller won't bring the price up.I keep the ground poppy seeds in a freezer, but not too long - I just love baking with it.

I had read one review criticizing the freshness of the ground seeds. What we got was a wonderfully flavorful package of ground seeds--hence much more poppy flavor that whole--that was used to make a traditional Hungarian poppy-seed cake which would have required us to send the filling through a grinder--much easier this way and totally delightful. A+++

Was looking forward to this and ordered two packs. I’m a Czech expat (Czech republic is one of the world’s largest poppy producers) and this is something I used to eat all the time. But sort of hard to get in the states. Much to my dismay, despite saying “freshly ground” on the package, this is not ground at all! Most of the seeds are whole, with a little grinding dust in between. And they are old, fairly bitter. Never again.

Fresh and delicious! Baked a poppyseed roll with my homemade poppyseed filling recipe and it was perfect!If you love poppyseed I highly recommend this product
