The Flat Broke Cookbook: Thrifty Meals & Shopping Tips for Tough Times

With the prices of food, I bought this in case I needed to use it in order to stretch my food.

Really good, down-home cooking. No ingredients you can’t find anywhere in the USA or Canada (the target audience). Tasty cooking that doesn’t cost much money or even that much time. Very good advice about how to stretch your food budget.Really, folks. This would be a good gift for anyone just starting out, setting up their first kitchen, on their first job.

I thumbed through this book and almost none of the recipes I would use. Am I too picky? Not broke enough? Not sure. I also already know how to make many staples from scratch.

I did lighter it . Not enough information in it.

Wonderful book for challenging times.

I think this is a excellent book. A lot of people could use the information Daisy writes in the book. Many people today don’t know about hard times. When a person goes through a hard time it makes them stronger and more resilient and resourceful. This book can teach people to be resourceful. I wish this book could be given when someone receives food stamps or government assistance. They would be able to make there food go much further. I highly recommend this book for everyone.

I own every book that Dorothy Luther has written, and I refer back to them over and over again. I collect cook books, but this one with the simple recipes is now my favorite over all the others! The recipes are inexpensive to make, family-friendly and delicious! Dorothy Luther has not only inspired me to cook from scratch, but now she has given me a book full of recipes that are mostly made from scratch. So far, my family has enjoyed every recipe I have made from this wonderful book.

This was a little “too broke” for us haha. Some interesting things, but I can’t imagine I’ll use it a ton. Very good advice for those who are really pinching pennies or in a tough stop.

This cookbook is the best investment yet on Amazon! I have bought all the groceries suggested in the book. During this covid time and money is tight with Christmas coming finding myself cutting back.Prices are rapidly changing, or products are not available in grocery stores. I need meals that last and healthy. Easy budget meals too! This book is wonderful and great tasting . Easy to follow directions . I didn’t buy grocery list all at once it takes a while. But I have it now. Make as you need . Enjoy practical home baking and easy budget meals. Like the old days ..nothing exotic. I really enjoy this book. Just enough to get through tough times.

I am obsessed with this cookbook. I collect cookbooks.All of the “recipes” are a adaptable to what you have on hand, or what your family will actually eat.Nothing is experimental in here. Which means less chance of your food ending up in the garbage.This one is actually one that I can afford to cook from. Fresh food from scratch, using food you can actually afford. I will cook everything in this book, and it will make me a better cook.

Bought this book for two of my four children who are complaining about the rise in grocery prices. Excellent ideas and well written with a little humor thrown in. Also bought one for my grand-daughter who is off to college next fall. Perfect for someone on a strict budget. Thank you...
