Gale Force Nine - Dune Board Game

I don't usually do reviews, but thought I'd give this a go as I was very struck by what Gale Force Nine's Dune has to offer. Put simply, I have never played a board game before where the themes and politics of the universe were so well integrated into the game - if you like Dune and you like board games - you should play this game, no questions asked. In fact, even if you don't like board games but love Dune, you still may love this. I love the look of the game, and certainly prefer it to Dune Imperium, which looks a bit more abstract in comparison; of course your mileage may vary. The learning curve is a bit steep, even without playing the advanced game, but there is so much to get your teeth sunk into it is truly absorbing for hours. Lastly, a shoutout goes to Gale Force Nine customer support - the box that arrived did not come with one of the leader tokens. I could have sent the whole box back again, but thought I'd e-mail GF9 instead (it was missing just one small token after all) and they were more than happy to mail out a copy of that token to me. Sometimes its the little things that count.

This is a big teach and a big play session, but if you have the people willing to put up with that, it's probably the best board game ever made. It really captures the dunebess of it all.

The people who played seemed to be enjoying it

This is a great game that I spent too much time playing while at university in the 1980s -- now reissued after being unavailable for many years. I need to look at the rules to see if there are any changes. We tweaked some of them ourselves back in the day to reign in a particularly overpowered character (I'm looking at you, Harkonnen) and improve the game dynamics in other ways. So my advice is don't be afraid to tinker with the rules if you need to. Nothing is carved in stone! Enjoy.

Definitely worth buying to add to any board game collection. The mechanics work well and the different factions feel pretty well balanced. Enjoyable game for the right, enthusiastic group.

Fantastic, was really worried it would be overly complex but with 4 reasonably practiced boardgamers we played it first time with the advanced rules in under 3 hrs and had a great time. Very thematic and lots of scheming and skullduggery

If you are a fan of Dune. This game is for you. I personally love this game. We play it every weekend.
