This is a *beautifully made* rolling pin. Made in the European Union (EU) from European Beech wood. It will last a lifetime with a little bit of care.Be sure to season your rolling pin with food-grade Mineral Oil available at your pharmacy or in the pharmacy section of most supermarkets and general stores.Matfer is the oldest French culinary tool company still in business and everything they make is with professional chefs in mind. 5 Stars, especially for the Quality to Value ratio.Some food for thought: To the reviewer who complained about the diameter being 1 3/4 inches instead of 1 7/8 inches, that is because you are using American Inch-Pattern measurements... This rolling pin is made in the European Union and all manufacturing measurements/dimensions used in production are based in the Metric system. 1 3/4 inches diameter is JUST 1/8” smaller than 1 7/8 inches.....For something like a rolling pin that is NOT a precision instrument, ONE EIGHTH OF AN INCH (.125”) is WELL WITHIN the margin of production error.It is not fair trying to apply US inch-pattern measurements to something made in the European Union which is totally Metric based manufacturing. If you ever go to buy European hardwoods for a home improvement project, you will notice ALL measurements and thicknesses are given in Metric. And if it is wood, there are nominal diameters that are always “+” or “-“ (plus or minus) a small, measurable amount (like 1/8”).Some food for thought.....

This rolling pin was advertised as "Made in France," so we ordered it.However, these is nothing in the packing, nor on the rolling pin toindicate it is Made in France. In particular, Made in France is neitherprinted on the item, nor is it burned into the end of the item.I would not buy it again.

needed a 1 7/8 inch dowel, disappointed it was only 1 3/4 inch. Would funtion ok for what it was intended, but not if you needed it as discribed!
