Silver (not black), super smooth and label/tape stuck on each piece
I ordered four 6-inch nipples to make custom industrial-looking shelves, not for plumbing purposes.They don't work for that purpose (they're too smooth, too silver, and not "industrial" looking).In addition, they come with a label stuck to them with tape. The label/tape is very difficult to remove and leaves sticky residue on the nipples. Removing the residue with goo off or alcohol wipes out the "black-ish" finish (which by the way come off on your hands when handling) and the nipples look even more silver and shiny after cleanup.Also noteworthy: "CHINA" is printed on them although to be fair, it's hardly noticeable.Lastly: They're NOT RETURNABLE/REFUNDABLE.Conclusion: OK for plumbing, but think twice if you want to use those to make shelves.

Strong, good threads, price tag hard to get off.
They work great for diy projects. Hardest part is getting the sticker barcode off. I used them to build a outdoor bar. I haven't worked much with industrial pipe so I didn't realize that they will rust fast outside. There's probably a solution you put over them or sand off the rust. I'm not really worried about it BC I'm kinda digging the look.

These pipes are terrific, smooth surface and easy to clean and use.Using these for shelving and other projects, they are much cleaner and cheaper than getting at even the big box stores. Cleaner and without the additional adhesive from labels and price tags,They come in a loose plastic wrap, and are ready to use after just simple wipe down. Clean machining and even color.

Exactly what I needed
Used these for some DIY bathroom shelves. They turned out perfect!

Why do they call these things 'nipples'? Odd.
It's a threaded metal tube. I did the job. When have I been more excited? I wish the hardware stores in my area carried black galvanized pipe. I felt a little silly ordering it through Amazon.

Do not buy for making shelves or furniture.
Every single nippled covered in tape and large price sticker that does not come off easily. Do not buy these if you hope to use for making pipe furniture!!!

If using these for shelving, note that 1.), you need to use a heat gun to get the stickers off, and 2.), the threads are not especially consistent. It's surprisingly difficult to get a large unit of these to sit level between shelves.
