Review: Brilliant - Perfect for any Tarentino Fan Review: This is NOT a box set of eight movies it's a documentary running at 101mins. - I thought I was getting a box set so I'm kicking myself for not reading the description. It's a great doc for the price. I just thought I'd leave this here so no one else suffers my fate.

Female director likes tarantino, hurrah!
Ok, so u get Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Robert Forster, and Sam Jackson(of course), and some other actors, Eli Roth, enough said. Also, a female stunt woman who talks and talks and talks like she's someone........ This "film" is divided into three chapters, one of which is essentially about girl power and strong women, yawn. You even get ten minutes of Weinstein bashing for your buck. What u don't get....Keitel, Travolta, Willis, De Niro, Grier, Pitt, DiCaprio, and most importantly......Quentin Tarantino, nothing, not a word from the man. It's a series of talking heads praising Tarantino. There is nothing you haven't heard before, no insight into his films, very very little behind the scenes footage. Essentially it's pointless. Don't waste your time and money like i did.

A rather blunt discussion
It very much depends what you want. If you are looking for an incisive and critical examination of his work forget it. This is a completely uncritical love letter from a fan. In this everything is great with no deviation from this. The only hint is one interviewee who refers to a previous box office flop that I assume to be his disappointing misfire “Death Trap”. Whilst Tarantino has produced some of the most remarkable films in modern American cinema, that can be spellbinding, some such as “Kill Bill Part 2” and the overlong “The Hateful Eight” don’t hit the premier league but there is not a hint of recognition here. A lot is made of the strong women in his films, yet the two most prominent – Uma Thurman and Pam Grier – don’t participate leaving a vacuum. Tarantino himself has not participated thus limiting the possible success of the film. There is also a disproportionate amount of time devoted to the fall of Harvey Weinstein that mars the film’s focus. So if you want a survey of his impressive CV with some insightful and amusing comments then this is fine, but if you are looking for intelligent depth and discussion this will not provide it.

QT8: The First Eight
An fairly basic yet still entertaining documentary on one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. QT8: The First Eight focuses on the first 21 years of Tarantino’s career and includes interviews with various collaborators and cast members. This is a well paced feature and covers each of Tarantino’s movies up to The Hateful Eight in three different sections. Each film gets a decent amount of time spent with it, and there is some cool visually unique animation for some of the stories being told which was a welcome addition. The documentary lands some big names: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz, Tim Roth and more and also features Tarantino regulars and not as big names such as Michael Madsen (who definitely gets the most screen time here), Eli Roth and Zoe Ball. There are some noticeable absences e.g. Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt, John Travolta, Uma Thurman which would have made this probably the most impressive documentary ensemble. A substantial amount of time is dedicated to Harvey Weinstein which is understandable, but I do wish there was more focus on the filmmaking process and Tarantino himself, the Weinstein segment at the end feels tacked on, as does the reference to Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood (which has already released before this documentary) and at one point Madsen goes off on a tangent about Weinstein which derails the pacing of the documentary. However at its best there’s someone thoroughly interesting, funny and film-geek heaven moments. QT8: The First Eight is worth a watch for fans and non-fans alike. Featuring a great lineup of interviews and a stylistically impressive presentation. However it could’ve been paced better and added more detail about some of the films and focused a bit less on the Weinstein aspects.

21 Years: Quentin Tarantino aka QT8 - The First Eight.
"There will always be blood. Brilliance and controversy" QT8 - The First Eight is a 2019 documentary written and director by Tara Wood. QT8 - The First Eight focuses on the first 8 of Tarantino movies from 1994 "Reservoir Dogs to the 2015 'The Hateful Eight," with some great interviews told by the cast that starred in them. Including Robert Foster who recently passed away at the age of 78 from brain cancer, Tim Roth, Lucy Liu, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and many more. I'm not really a fan of Quentin Tarantino but this was a fantastic documentary and I highly recommend it to any Tarantino fan out there. The English audio track is 5.1 and sounds great and the PQ is nice and sharp. QT8 - The First Eight is available now on Blu-ray and DVD.

Should Have Been A Bonus Feature
A watchable piece of fluff discussing Tarantino's first 8 movies. There's no criticism of his work, no real new information for fans but its all perfectly watchable and entertaining. Blu Ray looks great and comes with a slipcover. NO subtitles or additional features.

Are you a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino movies? Enjoyed his love of past movies? Is True Romance one of the best romances ever, in your opinion? If you are a Tarantino-phile, this documentary is for you! An excellent look at his 8 films (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was in production at the time this was released), you can't miss this one!
