Nagra V RS422 to USB
To connect the Nagra V RS422 port to RS232 port in a PC this was a very innovative method of connecting. The USB connection to the COM Port using the Nagra NAV COM software was ideal and not necessary to use the proprietary Nagra cable which is no longer supported by Nagra. The cable end is wired to a DB9 connector adapter using only the 4 wire TX+ TX- RX+ RX- configuration plus GND. The FTDI USB-RS422 has a light signal indication of the "traffic" signal usage so you can actually visualize the connection and know that the connection is wired correctly. If you are fortunate enough to find the Nagra software then this is a perfect solution to connect to the Nagra V RS422 port to manage the audio files on the HDD recorder. It helps too to see the PDF file from FTDI for this product to have the installation wiring data for the connections to the RS232 male adapter end - TX +/- RX +/- & GND = Red 8; Org 7; Yel 3; Wht 2; Blk 1 to Shield GND not 6. Works Great using current Microsoft 2.12.28.0 driver for Serial Com Port / USB Serial Com.Important - Use W7 Device Manager to Check the connection under USB Devices. If the last item is a Serial device and shows working properly, then go to the Com Port menu and check for a USB Serial Device there, it should also show Working Properly. The Nav Com 1.2 software under Files has a selection for setting the Com Port to use for the software cable connection. W7 Com Ports 1 & 2 generally are Used, so select one from 3 - 8. The software only uses 1 -8 Com Ports. Use Com Port 3 which can be setup by selecting Properties for the Serial Port device in Com Ports, then select Com Port settings and Advanced to change the Com Port. Confirm and generally disregard the warning about conflicting with other connected devices for W7 - if there is a problem it can be corrected later. Close the Nav Com program, connect the USB cable to the Nagra V and boot the Nagra. After booting with cable connected Open the Nav Com 1.2 software (making sure it is on Com 3) and you should see the Nagra V data filled in the various system boxes. Some experimentation may be necessary to get all correctly installed between wiring, software, and W7 Device Manager menus. Once configured the results are very satisfying.

High Quality
Great form factor; was plug-and-play with Windows as expected. Will buy several more to save myself from bulky DB9 conversions.
