GREAT DOCK
Zune Home AV Pack v2 is GREAT works with our Zunes the 30gb and 8gb flash work with no issues at all, have one in the kitchen now with set of speakers --you can use a set of cheap speakers that have the small headphone plug and plug them into the AV jack and play over them also- it does NOT HAVE TO ONLY BE USED WITH THE INCLUDED AV WIRES WITH THE RCA PLUGS THAT CAN BE CONNECTED TO A TV OR STEREO -- This dock is great because you just set your Zune in and it charges up and it LETS YOU PLAY YOUR MEDIA AT THE SAME TIME AS IT IS BEING CHARGED WHEN YOU USE THE INCLUDED AC ADAPTER unlike while it is connected to a computer which this dock does also if you want to for ease of syncing. The cord from the dock is proprietary to the dock with USB on the other end and is about 54 inches long -- for those that do not know what that means the cord is attached, hard wired to the dock -- . YES the battery in the remote was dead as others complained about but so what? I buy ENERGIZER CR2032 batteries by the HUNDRED PACK for around thirty bucks or less, so it cost me another .30 for a battery - LEARN WHERE TO BUY THEM. I really can't understand other reviews here complaining about buying a BATTERY and holding it against the item because of their ignorance for where to buy the batteries at? ? at around 90 bucks OFF these people complain about a BATTERY even if it cost 5 bucks? As for our Zune HD: this dock is great for charging your Zune HD - not all the remote functions work while in the dock though. our Zune HD will play music, the remote changes songs forward and backwards in playlist and the remote will adjust volume BUT THE REMOTE WILL NOT ACCESS MAIN MENU ON OUR HD these functions will have to be done on the Zune itself using the buttons on the Zune, a bit of a pain but not a deal breaker for SURE, basically set your Zune to play and then you can use the remote to change songs and adjust volume. I have not tried the HD for pictures yet but I assume - uh oh we know what that means - it will be the same We love our docks even with the shortcomings, all of our Zunes plug in EASILY- standing on display. The remote even works from the next room. Even though this dock does not fully support the ZuneHD we still love it, my HD sits in the dock nicely in and charges -- which is all I cared about for the HD just sit it in and it charges with no wire hanging out and it is no longer "laying on my desk" -- . The main reason I purchased these docks was for my sons 30gb and his 8gb flash and they work perfectly with full function remote control and no worries about a child plugging it in wrong damaging his Zune's charging plug. The ONLY drawback with these docks is if you Zune is in a case you will have to take it out of the case to use the dock OR cut the case to allow it to fit in the dock. For MY HD I just have the dock plugged into my PC and it automatically connects and syncs like using the OEM cord but instead of my zune laying on the desk with a wire sticking out the bottom getting in the way all the time it is now displayed nicely standing in the dock on top of my piano black PC media tray which this dock matches nicely. I think I answered all the questions I had before buying this, hope this helps anyone considering buying this AV pack. This dock is a GREAT accessory to have, probably the BEST purchase I have made for our Zunes and the BEST part of that is it is a GENUINE ZUNE PRODUCT made well with quality materials - not some aftermarket junk. BTW the remote is actually smaller than a business card and is laid out like a Zune Flash control panel. If you have a ZUNE you want this dock IMHO - BUY ONE or TWO BEFORE THEY ARE ALL GONE!

Just buy it already!
Ok, I must confess that I was a bit apprehensive buying this since I have the ZuneHD and this product is not meant for it. But, being less than 20 bucks it was worth a risk! It works excellent as per claimed none of any gimmick or anything just pure functionality. Connect your Zune with the TV, music system or PC. Remote control adds to the functionality bit as well, control your device from any corner of the room. Ok before you complain about the remote, just buy a new CR2032 cell and replace it! I love this device as I don't have to stick my headphones on me all the time and can listen to my music and charge it at the same time without having people shout at me to be heard. Neither do I have to buy a $100 dock cum speaker system with limited options. I can setup my audiophile system, or connect my Plasma TV to watch photos with friends and family, watch DVD quality movies (with component cables connected). Even with simple composite video the picture quality is quite good and for those 1080p movies, we can always go BluRay. I was a bit disappointed that we cant use applications while the dock is connected though. The dock is nicely weighed with rubber base so its stable and as of now, I am using 80GB adapter plate with the HD and its great apart from extra space at the sides which doesn't matter. Don't use your Zune without a adapter plate as the port might get damaged due to lack of support. The remote layout is similar to the Zune interface, back button left corner, up down for volume/scrolling, left right for forward rewind and play at top right corner with a center button for selecting. Simple yet functional although not high quality unlike other parts of the dock like the cables or the dock itself. The back of the dock has got a fixed USB cable, 3.5mm jack for the av cable and under the cover, component video outputs. No HDMI or digital outputs, only analog which quite frankly gets the job done pretty well and the output depends on the quality of the source file. This dock simply expands the media player capability to a new level! Note: If there is no TV output, click on settings>tv output>composite video after checking all connections (power needs to be supplied using the supplied power adapter/laptop and USB cable). If still no video, just restart the device while it is on the dock by keeping power button pressed for 10 seconds. Also, check the switch on the back of the dock. If remote is not working, replace the button cell! Update 1: Ok, I tried using the component out from the dock to watch on my HDTV but, there was no color. The composite out works flawlessly but apparently Zune HD doesnt support component out. The only output from the component cables I recieve is from the Y port while none from the Pb, Pr ports. I did some digging but this is what some people reported. Anyways, the output from composite video is clear enough and although component video would be great but if you want better quality video, you have to go the HDMI way and buy the more expensive HD dock which is for about $120 as of now. The component video works great for older models of the Zune though.

Works for my needs!
I bought this to use with a Zune HD 32gb. My main objective was easy connection to my home stereo system via RCA jacks, to replace a disk changer. This did the job. It sounds good & charges my Zune, so mission accomplished for about $10. I don't use my Zune for movies, so the extra cost for the latest HD dock with HDMI or component video connections was not worth it for me. The remote has limited capabilty to control the Zune HD & as others warned, it needed a new battery. The remote will pause, play and skip forward or backward to the next song with the HD. Even though this dock works with the Zune HD, it's not designed for it, so there's no adapter plate included that conforms to the shape of the HD player. That's not a big deal if you're carefull with it. You can add something in the recess the player slides into, to take away the gaps around it. I used adhesive backed felt, covered the felt with black electrical tape so it has a tight fit when docked. You can't tell it's been moded from a few feet away. This mod was not necessary & I probably wouldn't bother, but I had the materials on hand. Overall, I'm happy with the dock for my needs & the low price.

Brand New Original!
I've bought two of these now. They are brand new in the original packaging. Yes the remote battery is dead after 15+ years. Replace the battery with one off the shelf at Walmart and it works perfectly. I love having one on my desk at work and with my home audio system at home.

What you need to know before your buy.
First off, more than likely you will need to replace the batteries in the remote. Second my AV pack will only work using Composite video cables and the other video out does not work on either of the two I've bought. My experience with this AV Pack. I have a pretty nice HD AV systems and wanted to use this package to listen to my all my music I've put onto my Zune though my AV Receiver and see the info on my TV. I also store a few movies on my Zune (DVD Quality) for travel and so forth. In my opinion the Zune is a great mp3 player and the idea of seeing the artist and song info on my TV, and a remote for song selection, artist, genre, album selection and play-lists where great, but the remote did not work until I changed batteries. The video did not work at all until I tried the composite video out and the results are not that great. Later while going through some old electronic cables and I saw a remote for an old Sony camcorder. Since the two look allot alike I took the battery out and replaced the battery in one of the two Zune AV Pack remotes I have and was shocked to see that it worked fine. So it all turned out OK, but I did not expect to have to replace the batteries on the remote to get this set to work, plus the fact that you have to use composite video cables to get the video option from my Zune was disappointing. So know that there is a chance you might need to order the batteries the same time as you order the AV pack, and that you will likely need to use composite video cables. With this advanced info you should have a pretty good experience. All of the info that's stored on your Zune will display on your TV and the sound through my AV Receiver is pretty darn good. Over all since I had to find solutions to get this two Zune Home AV Packs I own to work I recommend you weight the benefits and decide if it's worth the purchase. BTW most newer AV Receivers have a MP3 enhancement so that your Zune' music sounds very good, and with the ability to set up play list this can be a great way to play the music you want to for an evening or day event at your home.

Zune home a/v pack v2 works with 120 gb, great component output video
The version 2 home a/v pack is definitely the way to go if you have an 80gb or 120 gb zune. (Keep in mind that currently, only the 80 and 120 gb zune can output video via component cabling.) Something none of the other reviews have touched on is the fact that this model is the one that contains component out jacks on the back of the zune dock. You can, therefore, use any component cable (not supplied) for DVD quality output of movies, etc. I can attest that the output looks absolutely fantastic on a 50 inch HD widescreen set. My wife could not see any difference in it and our high end upscaling DVD player. Of course, a lot depends on how you encode the video and the quality of the source. But assuming you get that right, you will be very pleased with the look of the video. (720 x 576 resolution with component) Also, the menu system itself doesn't look all that hot. But a nicely encoded video will sure treat your eyes once you fire it up. you have lots of choices now on encoding since the Zune 3 firmware supports .wmv, mpeg-4, and h.264 video files. I have put about 10 movies on so far for our 2 year old to watch on an upcoming trip. Now, the audio output is strictly stereo; but I don't think that's much to complain about since what hotel or guest room is going to have you a surround speaker system set up. Another reviewer has also stated that this kit does not work with the Zune 120 gb. He is very wrong. It states right on the front of the box that the kit works with all zunes. (and lists it specifically as well) The way they do this is by including various "faceplates" for the different zunes. I was worried about this initially, but they conform very nicely and you can't even really tell they are removable once they're in. It comes with a 4g/8gb labelled plate, a 30 gb labelled plate, and an 80 gb labelled plate. The 80 gb plate is the one to use for the 120. It fits perfectly. I've had no issues docking this thing at all; so don't quite understand the other comments regarding that. Remote works very well with decent range. If you have an 80 or 120 gb zune and are looking to have an easy way to watch dvd quality movies on a TV while travelling, this kit is perfect for you. UPDATE 12/10/08: I just got back from a trip where I got to put the kit to use. Everyone thought I was playing the movies from a DVD. The Zune functionality was also great seeing as how I was showing slideshows of a recent trip complete with music. When listening to music, the Zune puts up the album art that it scavenges from the online database; very cool. Couple things to point out. 1. The composite video out can't hold a candle to the component out. Spend a little extra to get a nice set of short, component cables. Also, the Zune sync software includes an option in settings to optimize video for TV output. Make sure this is enabled. It takes a little longer to sync video this way, but well worth the time. 2. If you are having an issue with volume through your tv when watching movies, make sure your actual zune unit volume is turned all the way up. Since the kit uses the headphone jack on the zune, volume is 1st dependent on how high you have the zune volume set. If your zune vol. is turned way down, you can max out your TV's volume and still only get a trickle of sound. So, in essence, you have 2 volumes to deal with: TV volume and Zune volume. May seem obvious to some, but it is easy to overlook when doing all the other connections while your 2 year old is yelling to see "Snow White." 3. If you don't see any picture on the TV after cabling the component jacks, there is a little switch on the back of the Zune dock that must be pushed toward the component jacks. Also, the black plate that hides the component jacks will not go back on the Zune dock until the switch is pushed back into its default composite position. So overall, the Zune and home kit v2 performed wonderfully. I can re-emphasize the importance of this kit for any Zune owner. UPDATE 1/10/09: Clarification on video output capability of Zunes. All currently available Zunes have video playback functionality on the Zune screen itself (4,8,16,30,80,120). Only the 30, 80, and 120 Zune can output video to a TV. Note, however, that the Zune30 is no longer manufactured. Also, if you are buying this kit for a Zune30, the Zune30 does NOT support component output; it supports composite only output(yellow plug). You need the Zune80 or Zune120 to use the component (HD) functionality. Just wanted to add this in since when I bought my Zune, I found this information very hard to come by on the interwebs. UPDATE 9/20/09: Zune HD has launched and has its own dock. It's currently pretty pricey, but will drop just like the old dock did with a little time. For what it's worth, the new dock is backward compatible with the old Zunes. If you have a Zune HD, you'll need the new HD A/V dock. In addition to having a little different form factor, this new HD dock actually has an HDMI port AND a digital fiber optic audio port(toslink). This is a big deal. Basically, you're going from 480i resolution (stereo sound) with the Zune 80/120 to 720p rez and surround sound, conceivably Dolby 5.1. This is a dream come true for travellers. Also you're getting a true digital connection simplified with the HDMI vs. the 3 component cables which is not truly a digital connection. Now the Zune HD uses the same interface on the bottom of the unit: i.e. connection with docks, car stereo cables, etc. so your existing stereo conversion cable you invested in is still gonna work fine. (mine is a Soundgate) Also, it's worth noting that Microsoft is discontinuing my Zune, the Zune 120(as well as the previous zune models), in favor of this new lineup of the Zune HD. So if you want an older zune model, now's the time to pick it up. One other neat thing for those of you that took my advice and bought this AV kit for your Zune 2 is the new Zune HD shifts to a new custom UI whenever connected to a TV, instead of just displaying what's on the zune itself. Since I'm not what you'd call an early adopter, I'm not able to publish reviews yet on the Zune HD or new dock. Maybe I'll get one for Christmas. ;)

Essential product for your zune
Our family loves our 4 Zunes but we also like to listen to music together. There aren't many speaker docks for the Zune and the one we tried didn't work well and we had difficulty with the docking connection. The Zune Home AV Pack V2 with a good set of computer speakers turned out to be a much better solution. This set includes the dock (with an integrated USB cable), an A/C charger which accepts the USB plug, a composite video cable, and a remote. It has jacks for audio, composite video, and component video (which is better.) If you want to use component video you need to provide your own cable. Only the Zune 30, 80, and 120 support video output. I believe the 4/8/16 don't have this capability. The remote mimics the Zune controls so it is easy and convenient to use. The base is sturdy and our Zune slips in easily and connect every time. The A/C charger, as advertised, is compact and convenient. We got ours for 2/3 of retail. It is now less than 1/2 retail. A very good deal, don't hesitate to get it at this price. This is a better solution over a 3rd party Zune speaker dock for us because: - You can choose the quality of the speakers you want to hook up, including using a subwoofer or not, or use your home stereo system. - You can separate the speakers to enhance the stereo effect. - You can mount the computer/mp3 speakers on the wall saving valuable desk space. - The remote handles all of the Zune's functions (you need to be looking at the screen for navigation). The dock we bought only had play/stop, on/off, and volume. Surprisingly you can see the screen of a Zune 30 or 80 from a good distance away. What we didn't like as much (not this item's fault): - It introduces more wires than a consolidated dock. - No alarm clock functionality So if you are neat with your wires and don't need an alarm or other features some of the speaker docks provide, this is perfect.
