Hunter's Moon (A Doc Ford Novel)

Different twist to ongoing saga
Another great novel and story from Randy Wayne White’s collection. It has really helped tor read each in succession to understand the linkage between books. After the 14th book, I still am greatly entertained.

Do not extend hands or feet out of the car!!!
The scene opens with Doc at a party and a conversation with a knowing fellow who seems somewhat aware of Doc's "other" life. White steps on the gas, and zoom. This novel really takes off, and the reader will be a hundred pages into it before it gets put down for a breath. We quickly learn that he is a former President of the United States and is dying of a form of cancer. He is on a mission of revenge and Doc and Tomlinson are selected to be his assistants. I have had some reservations about White's work for the last two novels. He drifts toward the political conspiracy theorizing and condo developer-hating one finds on the Fla. west coast, but I kinda feel that way myself. This doesn't get out of hand here and so the novel MOVES. Not much Dinken's Bay partying, little neo-mysticism. This is an action novel. Tampa Burn's full bore nasty Incendario reappears as an actor, this time in the jungles of Panama. Doc's involvement and the President's reconcilliation with former South American strong man and others seems motivated by a sense of greater global threats than right/lrft conflict in today's world. One little problem is Doc Ford's age: being forty and praising the Hmong. Lemme see, Cambodia 1969, last Huey out of Saigon:1974. Thirty seven years. Oh,well. The novel is still very good. Buy it but do not count on a couple day's entertainment. You will read it in a sitting.

Fast paced thriller
Let me begin with a disclosure: I'm a big fan of Randy Wayne White's Doc Ford series. To be honest, some of them are better than others. _Hunter's Moon_ is one of the best. While the story is a bit far-fetched, I am willing to suspend my belief for the sake of a good story - White doesn't disappoint. For readers who are not familiar with the characters, I would recommend reading them in sequence, as there are some references to previous events that background information makes the story richer. The book is fast paced - it takes place over the course of only a few days, which serves to heighten both the tension and the action. I was disappointed in the books drifting away from the southwest Florida setting that I know and love, but White's snappy writing and allusions to the moon (a knowing wink and nod to close readers) and other literary devices made up for it. This is as close to "literature" as one gets in a genre rife with hack authors. White can *write*. The conclusion to the book was familar - White borrowed heavily from an essay he wrote after 9/11: "An Open Letter to Those Who Hide Behind the Caskets of Innocents." Powerfu stuff magnified by the story's climax.Fans of RWW will not be disappointed. _Hunter's Moon_ is among the best of the Doc Ford novels. For those unfamiliar with the series or the author, I recommend him - both his fiction and non-fiction are excellent.

Wow, even an Ex- Pres is in the Group!
When I chose this book, I had no clue as to what was coming. There were some unusual things that begged for an explanation. That was delivered, in spades, during Ford's final meeting with Ex-Pres. Wilson and it was very satisfying to learn of these things. I think ANY White fans will love this result!

Another great "Doc Ford" novel by Randy Wayne Whie!
This is the 13th Doc Ford novel I have read and yes, I enjoy the suspense, mystery and interesting characters portrayed in the series of Doc Ford novels. I would not recommend this as a "first read" to introduce you to Doc Ford but it certainly offers another great adventure filled with twists and turns. Randy Wayne White is a gifted writer who captures the essense of coastal living in SW Florida, brings to life characters you have met along the way and often blurs the lines between fiction and reality.

Great action but disappointing for this Doc Ford fan.
I really loved the plotline, the action sequences and the character development as always in Randy's Doc Ford books. As a hard-core fan, however, Hunters Moon was a bit disappointing. I really missed the cast of characters from Dinkins Bay, none of whom except Tomlinson appear in this book. The southwest Florida locale is absent for almost the entire book too and I really love that element of the Doc Ford books since I live in that area.I understand why Randy did it the way he did and his writing was superb as usual. So, despite my small dissapointments I still highly recommend it.
