It doesn't mention the LED light....do they both have the lights that illuminate when drilling?

Yes they do. The impact driver shown on the right has a lit LED ring surrounding the quick connect. The drill/driver has a smaller led light right below the black quick connect. Just above the red trigger.

Im looking to buy Drill bits and more options for flat heads/philips. what kind should I buy?? I've heard horror stories of people getting wrong type

I wont buy drill bits for this tool, I have yet to find 1/4 drive drill bits that are strong in small sizes, 1/8th and larger work fine, (Just don't buy the cheapest or Over spend)No Harbor Freight !!, I only use this for screwing, I also wont use flat-head, My favorite screws are either Star drive (6 point) or square drive screws , No stripping heads or rounding tips like Phillips, Buy a magnetic extension tip and an assortment of tips, Lowes Kobalt or even these http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-71-933-Magnetic-31-Piece/dp/B0002STRAE/ref=sr_1_47?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1395872485&sr=1-47&keywords=screwdriver+tip+set

Is the drill 3/8 " and impact 1/4" /

Both are 1/4 inch. This Drill does not have a traditional adjustable chuck. 1/4 inch hex bits like an impact driver. You will likely need to buy a drill bit set for it. There is a different set available if you want the adjustable chuck. The drill is a little larger, but still quite small.

Can these batteries be charged while detached from the drill?
