TrueTone MHT162 Trumpet Mute

I previously wrote that it has a problem staying in the bell, but that was based on my initial experience playing a cornet with it. Now that I've put it in a trumpet I see that it stays in just fine. I didn't realize the slightly different bell shape made that much difference. So don't buy it to mute a cornet!It's not as free-blowing as I expected. It does a good job of quieting the sound, though. Of course, it distorts your tone, but that's not an issue for me.What I ended up doing with it was cut a hole in it and stuck a Shaker harmonica microphone in so I can play trumpet through guitar effects without also hearing the raw trumpet sound. This worked great, and the mute prevents feedback, making it much better than a clip-on mic for this. Even with the extra weight of the mic and cable, it doesn't fall out unless I move suddenly.

Sounds very low- it's made out of plastic-The corking was not finished. (the seams did not come together-there was some separation of the corking.

It's very good, given the cheap price. It stays snugly in the bell of my student King 600 and muffles the sound well, without much effect on tuning. It does cause a lot of back pressure when used, but that's to be expected. Very good for students or players short on money.

Made cheaply. 1st one arrived split in 2. Returned and received another the same way. Just glued it back together myself since son needed to use it.

My oldest son just joined the band last year and his instrument of choice was the trumpet. I am so amazed how fast he has picked up on it. After a ton of research he came to me with a list of things he wanted for his. Needless to say this product was and is amazing. He loves it. Highly recommend. Quality is amazing and pricing is very affordable.

A little stuffy but you can't complain too hard considering the price. Nicely mutes so other people in house aren't disturbed.

GREAT PRACTICE MUTE!!!

Not perfect, but it does the job and at a great price. I use it in a dorm room and it muffles well. However, it feels like you're forcing the air through so it doesn't help with tone.
