Does it work through a usb2.0 hub? (Obviously yes but upvote this to the top so people can see it and fix their problem!)

Yes. Matter of fact: 
I could not get it to work when this was
connected directly to my laptop.
..After alot of investigation and stumbling...
I found a very small blurb mentioning usb hub
(2.0)...
Connected an old usb 1 to 4 and
Connected this to 1 of the 4 usb2.0 jack's
and viola!!
It work's!!

Question 2

I have a windows 10 hp spectre and this device will not connect. the light stays red. any suggestions?

Make sure you're connecting using a 2.0 USB port on your HP Spectre laptop.  The device is not recognized if plugged into a 3.0 USB drive.  I had the same problem on my Dell, luckily it's got 2x3.0 USB ports and 1x2.0...  The company that makes this device doesn't make that clear on the packaging or super obvious on their website (though I did find that answer there).  I tried installing their drivers - WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE btw.  For me, plugged into the 2.0 USB port and Windows 10 recognized the device and got a Green Light on the device.  Worked as expected after that...  Good luck!

I can not get the drivers to work on windows 10. Does not install  Automatically and tried to down load at support site. What else can i do?

I had some difficulty when first trying to install the OBDLink EX FORScan Adapter in my computers also. I went to this site https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP and downloaded the latest driver available on both of my computers (Windows 10 64 bit and an older Acer laptop with Windows 7 64 bit) Once the driver was installed, the EX adapter worked as it should. Now whenever I have the cable adapter connected to the computer, it shows a split second red light, then changes to yellow, then as soon as I connect it to the ODB II port on the car, it goes to green and it's ready to go.

will this work with other OBD 2 programs or only forscan?
