The String ButlerV2 - Full Black/Stealth guitar tuner

Incredible little gizmo that instantly eliminates tuning problems on 3 aside headstocks. Simple to fit and worth their weight in gold - both my Gordon Smith guitars are now kitted out with the all-black stealth versions, making them a genuine joy to play. Cannot recommend highly enough!

I'm not entirely sure if this really has made a difference, but it does exactly what it says it's meant to. The device itself is well made, with small rollers to ensure the strings move smoothly. After fitting, which is a 5 minute job, and restringing the guitar, the strings are now routed through the nut in a straight line, rather than at an angle, which has got to be better...I've realised that on my other guitar, the headstock isn't rectangular, and is narrower at the top than the bottom, so the tuners are not in a straight line, meaning the strings are routed better through the nut, so the issue can easily be fixed by a better design, but as most acoustic guitars tend too look like mine, the string butler is a good alternative...

Fitted the STRING BUTLER V2 to a Chapman ML-2 Classic super easy to install and decided to orient in the "V" position (point down) to minimise the angle of string bend to the machine heads whilst maintaining the straight angle from the nut.It simply works and the guitar seems to sound sweeter as the tuning is more stable. Yes it still eventually goes out of tune with crazy string bending but it's not a locking system so that's to be expected. It just lends a hand and helps out enough to make it useful and rewarding to install.Glad I got it and will get another String Butler V2 for my Epiphone Black Beauty.

This is a brilliant if somewhat expensive solution to keep the strings from binding on the nut, usually on single cut style guitars, which may cause potential tuning issues. Having fitted it it seems to have cured the problem, I don't get the usual pinging noise when tuning; even though I have a Tusq nut fitted, and tuning stability is much improved even with aggressive string bending. It looks well made and should last a lifetime.

This device DOES solve the major design flaw of the Gibson headstock: the fact that the D and G strings are angled across the nut. However, before fitting the String Butler you must examine the nut slots, particularly the ones for the D and G. Sometimes Gibson’s TRAINED CHIMPS cut these slots at the correct angle; sometimes not. If these two slots are ‘properly’ angled you need to ‘fan out’ the slots on the headstock side of the nut using a nut file or sandpaper, so that the string will cross the nut straight after you’ve fitted the String Butler. Failing to do this will introduce a kink at the nut which will negate the String Butler advantage. This caveat aside, the String Butler works flawlessly - even extreme bends do not define the G String. Highly recommended.

Fantastic bit of engineering but... be aware if you have (certain brands of) top locking tuners this won't be compatible (without drilling). I bought this and a set of Kluson top locking tuners and attempted to put both on my Nighthawk. The Kluson top lockers have a hole near the bottom of the post and the extra depth that the string butler and its plastic washer give meant that with the locking nut in place the hole in the post was not available.This is a real shame as the string butler is a beautifully constructed and engineered item. It looks great and appears to have been manufactured to an extremely high spec. All is not lost in my case as I have another 3x3 that I will use this on when I next need to change the strings.

Very easy to install and now the tuning stability of my Les Paul is as good as all my other guitars.
