Franklin Delano Roosevelt

As someone who is a big fan of FDR's work, but was not as well versed as I would've liked, I thought this was a great read. Roosevelt was obviously a man who was able to achieve so many things during his tenure in American politics, so it would have been incredibly hard to get too far in depth with each detail, but the author does a great job giving as much insight as possible on so many of the key events. I thought the author also did a great job remaining unbiased: as great as FDR was, he was not perfect, and both the pro's and con's of many of his key decisions are analyzed equally. There are plenty of other options out there if you're looking to drill deep into any of the specifics of FDR's life, but for a solid snapshot of everything leading up to, and including, a very important presidency at such a crucial time in American history, this was a fantastic read. (Also, for what it's worth, the book also does a great job citing its references, providing a starting point to go learn more in depth about any specific topics.)

It’s an easy read, but I expected a more in-depth look at FDR’s life and accomplishments. This reads like a chapter from a college text book. The facts are all there, but not the character of the man nor of those around him.

Pretty interesting. It was very short and probbly left a lot of details out. But all in all a good book

I had to get this book for my college history class. I was surprised to find myself very engaged in the book. This is a must have for any history buff, presidency classes or somebody interested in FDR's life.

This book on Roosevelt is very short but contains a large amount of facts. It is exceptionally well-written. If you read nothing else on Roosevelt, read this. I have read quite a bit about Roosevelt, and I enjoyed this book very much. My husband, who is not the reader I am, also enjoyed it.

well written, easy to follow and digest. good for those who want to know more about fdr but not get bogged down in countless details. as an intro to that period of the world, it delivers. worth the time .

Brinkley portrays Roosevelt as a master of political leadership. In most instances Roosevelt correctly judged how hard he cold push US citizens to support social welfare programs, war preparedness, " internationalism", anti colonialism, and human rights. Brinkley does not "soft soap" Roosevelt's failures in the court packing fiasco and in doing little to help Holocaust victims.

More of a short summary on FDR. Not much new content nor new perspective. If one knew nothing of the man, this might be an interesting outline to begin with.

Il s'agit d'un excellent livre qui rapporte l'essentiel du parcours politique de Roosevelt. J'aurais cependant aimé davantage d'âne rodés pour mieux comprendre l'homme et son parcours.

I've read it in an afternoon. A very interesting, accurate and well-written account of the man and his great work.
