Is the locking mechanism plastic and weak so a screwdriver can easily pry open the box? (This question based on complaints about a competing product.)

I’m a moron because I broke off key #1 and lost key #2 this week, so I got to play “thief” and break into my own box to get my gun out. YES, it’s pretty well built (metal, not plastic), but I was able to remove it from my car with simple wire cutters. Getting the box open was another story, I couldn’t defeat the lock, not even with my lock pick set because it’s keyed on 2 sides, not just one. The pinnhinge on the opposite side is slightly recessed, so you can’t remove that without denting the lips, which I did with a screwdriver and hammer. I then knocked the hinge pin out with a hammer and small Phillips screwdriver. So will it keep someone from stealing your stuff? Not if they bring along a few key tools, but it’d be difficult enough to discourage a “snatch n grab” kind of theif (or kids).

What are the dimensions of this item?

Outside, 6 3/8" x 9 1/2" x 1 3/4".  It's hinged along the 6 3/8" dimension.Inside, at the other end from the hinge, 1/2"  is partially occupied by the lock engagement, leaving about 9". The 6 3/8" dimension is closer to 6" inside, due to a liner along each side. There are two 1/2" thick open-cell foam pads lining the hinged face and the bottom of the box.It comes with a 3/32" coated steel cable with loops on both ends. One loop can be locked inside the box by looping it around the lock engagement. The cable exits through a small slit, leaving about 34" of cable to to be secured to something outside the box.

Will a P99 with 2 mags fit in this case?

I have the slightly smaller version (not full size) of this case. In it I put my Bersa Thunder 380, 2 mags and a small box of ammo. I can fit my Beretta PX4 Storm compact in it; with one extra mag. The P99 is somewhat larger than either of these, but it should fit in the full size case with the mags.

Can a kid break into this?

I would say it depends on the age of the kid and the kid's skill level/determination.  I have a 3 yr old boy who would not be able to break into it.  An older kid with the right tools "might" be able to.  It would be difficult unless they found the key however it is not impenetrable.
