"Have Fun Storming the Castle"
If you are looking for a slightly twisted, funny fairy tale, you've come to the right place. The movie opens with a sick boy (Fred Savage). His grandfather (Peter Falk) comes in and offers to read him a special story. Only because it has sports in it does the grandson agree to hear the story. But he is soon swept up into a magical story. Fortunately, we get to go along for the ride.In a land far away lived a beautiful girl named Buttercup (Robin Wright). She enjoys tormenting the family servant Westley (Cary Elwes). Soon, they fall in love, and Westley sets off to seek his fortune in the world, promising to return for her one day.His ship, however, is attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts, a man who takes no prisoners.Three years pass, and Buttercup has agreed to marry Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon) even though she doesn't love him. On the day they announce their engagement, Buttercup is kidnapped by three evil men who intend to kill her. However, they are being followed by a man in black. Who is he? Will he rescue her? Is he even trying to rescue her? This is one of those movies that requires two viewings. I'll admit I didn't appreciate this movie the first time around. The plot rambles all over the place, the scenes with the grandfather and grandson seem out of place, and the lines everyone quotes don't seem all that funny. But on the second viewing, my opinion changed. When I wasn't trying to figure out the plot, I saw the humor in the piece. It's spoofing fairy tales. As such, it is brilliant. And the dialogue truly is funny if you give it a second chance. Along the way, we get amazing sword fights, danger, and true love. What more could you want? Now while I say this is a spoof, it's a general spoof of fairy tales in general and none specifically. And it still takes itself seriously enough that you come to care for these characters and what happens to them.So this is my advice. Watch the movie once, put it away for a while, and then try it again. I think you'll find it works much better when you know exactly what to expect.

Wonderful film - what's in the Blu-Ray only edition?
This is a terrific movie that has so many different editions of the DVD and now Blu-Ray discs that it gets very confusing as to what is in each version.A search of the internet shows several reviews that describe the differences between the DVD versions. Basically the "Dread Pirate Roberts" edition and the "20th Anniversery" edition have different special features not in the other edition. As of this writing, there are three versions of the Blu-ray - the Blu-ray only edition, and the Blu-ray + DVD edition in either a Blu-Ray or the old style DVD case. What makes it confusing is that Amazon and other sellers of this Blu-Ray only edition list this movie as a 1.33:1 aspect ratio, implying that it might be a different movie cut, while the other two Blu-ray editions are listed as 1.85:1 aspect ratio. No doubt this, together with the fact that the Blu-Ray + DVD edition has almost the same price, has hampered sales of this Blu-Ray only edition.Well, I went ahead and got the Blu-Ray only edition, mainly because I thought that there might be a chance that the 1.33:1 ratio was because some older movies were filmed on 35mm film which has a natural 1.33:1 aspect ratio, and then were cropped top and bottom to a 1.85:1 ratio to give them a widescreen look. On the other hand, the very first DVD edition released for Princess Bride notoriously had a horrible pan-and-scan cropped to fullscreen 1.33:1 aspect ratio that showed less of the movie than the widescreen version, which is not what you want to see in a Blu-ray. I was hoping for the other possibility that the listed 1.33:1 for this Blu-ray edition meant that cropping had been removed from the widescreen version to show MORE of the movie as it was originally filmed. However, on playing this Blu-ray, it was immediately obvious that this Blu-Ray only edition is the same 1.85:1 aspect ratio as the other Blu-Ray editions. So all those listed descriptions of this Blu-Ray as a 1.33:1 aspect ratio are just flat out wrong. What are the other goodies on this Blu-Ray? The Special Features include:Audio Commentary by Rob ReinerAudio Commentary by William GoldmanThe Art of FencingAs You Wish, The Story of The Princess BrideCary Elwes, Video DiaryThe Dread Pirate Roberts: Greatest Pirate of the Seven SeasFairy Tales and FolkloreLove is Like a StorybookMiraculous MakeupOriginal Theatrical TrailerPrincess Bride: The Untold TalesSo, this Blu-Ray contains essentially all the special features of the "Dread Pirate Roberts" edition and the "20th Anniversary Edition" except for the DVD games and the booklet. The special features are in their original DVD or lower quality video resolution, although it seems that some of the excerpts from the movie itself have been re-edited to use the higher Blu-Ray resolution. The Blu-Ray quality is excellent, except for being a bit grainy in some parts - tweaking the sharpness or edge enhancement helps, if you have this feature on your Blu-Ray player. Finally, a few words about the movie - it is an absolutely wonderful classic - a warm, romantic, and humorous mythology, one of those perfect family movies that could be shown every year just like "A Christmas Story". It was known to be the late Andre the Giant's happiest experience in life, playing the role of Fezzik; he regularly watched the movie afterwards. It belongs on the list of my favorite films of all time.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Timeless Classic That Never Gets Old
“As you wish…” has never meant more. The Princess Bride is not just a movie—it's a beautifully woven tale that wraps adventure, romance, comedy, and fantasy into a perfect, unforgettable package. I’ve watched this film more times than I can count, and every viewing brings the same joy, laughter, and heartfelt nostalgia as the first. The cast is pure magic: Cary Elwes is the dashing Westley, Robin Wright brings grace and strength to Buttercup, and let’s not forget Mandy Patinkin’s iconic performance as Inigo Montoya—one of the most quotable and beloved characters in film history. The script is clever and endlessly quotable, the sword fights are genuinely thrilling, and the story somehow manages to be both sweet and satirical at the same time. It’s a movie that grows with you. As a child, you’ll get swept up in the fantasy. As an adult, you’ll fall in love with the wit, heart, and deeper themes of love, loyalty, and perseverance.Whether you’re introducing a new generation to the wonders of Florin or rewatching for the hundredth time, The Princess Bride remains a treasure—charming, ageless, and absolutely essential for any movie lover's collection.Inconceivably good.
