Halston Paperback – October 3, 2011

What a great book to chat about. A legend before Tom Ford. Too bad he didn't have the insight that Ford does. A must book to read for a fashionista.

An amazing catalog of Halston's iconic designs. I wish the actual size of the book was a bit bigger. Halston's designs tend to get a little lost printed at such a small size.

I bought this book not realizing that it was a small book. Yes, very thick but small nonetheless. The photos need to be viewed in a larger format and the captions in red are impossible to read. The typesetting makes for difficult reading. Phaidon really let me down on this one.

The only thing I object to ,is trying to contain HALSTON to a 5 x 7 inch format .Whos idea was that ? The man was large ,the times were large and then This Book is small! RE DO IT ,About the size of interview magazine ,POO POO on the Size

but like anyone in fashion can tell you as a book person i like taller thinner books. hehehehe this book is short and fat kinda like this collector

Okay, I totally understand why other reviewers dislike the size of this book, it definitely is small. However, i suspect that has something to do with the cost of printing all of those AMAZING color photos and not with the author's desire to make a small book. It is a knock-out look back at one of the best designers of the 70s. As someone who works in a fashion museum, and has recently been researching Halston, this book is an invaluable resource. There are tons of Halston sketches and runway shots paired with existing garments that are beautifully mounted. I mean, the amount of research that went into making a book like this is astounding. If you are even remotely interested in Halston, and want a resource that is packed with fantastic primary source material - this is the book for you. If you are just looking for a cute Halston book that has some flashy disco era photos, they are still in here, but maybe the size of the book will bother you, but I still think its worth it. As an aside - after flipping through this book you will really feel the impact of the loss of one of America's greatest, and mostly forgotten, designers.
