Works great. I am using this in conjunction with a Raspberry Pi to power my ADS-B receiver. I had to use a 12v cigarette lighter socket splitter to power this hub from one side (12v) and the Raspberry Pi from the other side (5v). Since I am not using a permanent installation, I connected the hub positive power wire and acc wire to the same positive wire from the cigarette lighter plug. Everything works great and provides plenty of power to the Raspberry Pi as well as the 978 and 1090 receivers and WIFI dongle.

Poor Quality Control, but great Customer support! (but NOT from Amazon)
I viewed the You Tube demonstration video on this product before I ordered it. The concept and design is ideal, but not the unit I received. I installed it on 9/23; it would not power-up in USB mode. In IGN mode it powered-up, but none of the 4 ports would energize. I sent [email protected] an e-mail with a description of my problem on 9/24. They promptly replied to ask what my input voltage was, and had I checked that with a meter. I sent them a detailed reply, and that has not yet been answered.I would like to talk in person with them, but they seem to have only an e-mail address.I just now, 12:41 on 9/25 received this: "RE: [Ticket#768-7481] It does sound like your unit is defective (although this is extremely rare), especially since there is no power through the outbound USB ports when either the ACC wire has +12V or the input USB port has power. Please use Amazon's return process as they'll refund the purchase price as soon as they receive the defective item back. Amazon requires us to direct all returns to them if the order was placed on their site. "I returned item to Amazon who will refund, but not replace. Their price had now gone up $20.00. The seller. mp3car(Stephen) was wonderfully cooperative: sold me a new one directly at the original Amazon cost and shipped it 2-day! Received 9/27. Restores one's faith in mankind's better nature! The replacement unit has been functioning fine for the past three months.

This is only a peripheral hub for a running computer, can not be used as an in-car USB power supply.
The device may work, but I don't really know. There is no manual, just a short review video, so not everything is clear...before or after purchase. You have to read the entire long review thread at mp3car and realize that this hub can not be used as a car power supply for 5v USB devices, which is what it seems do be at first glance. It can be used only as a peripheral to a computer as an extension hub. It will not power on unless there is one attached and running. There is no jumper or wiring combination which puts it in the mode of "power up on ignition" (which it says it will do), only "power up on ignition AND valid 5v input to the upstream USB port".No one has yet figured out a way to spoof it into powering on without having an up-and-powered upstream USB connection to a live computer. That is to say, it is a 5v power supply that requires...you guessed it...5v input. If you have a computer right there, powered, running, then it's probably an excellent product. For me (I wanted it to power a 5V computer...a raspberry pi...and its peripherals) it can't be used. Some people complain that it's a lot of money for a 12v powered basic hub, but it has lots of other features...reverse polarity detection, wide range of accepted power inputs, survives cranking dips down to 7v, guaranteed current to each port, timed shutdown, different shutdownmodes...but my only complaint is only that it's overpriced for something with no manual. What do the S/L/M codes on the shutdown timer jumper correspond to? I haven't seen any clue anywhere. That's the reason for the 2 star review, even though it might well work as designed. It's possible that I have misunderstood some of this, for which I apologise. As mentioned, no manual. But on that long thread (which in essence forms the documentation), nobody has found a way to make it power up absent an already-running computer feeding it power.

Works great but there's no way to keep it on without an upstream computer powering the USB port; IE, it won't easily work with a Raspberry Pi. Love these things otherwise.

Easy to install and bulletproof
Works perfectly, ideal for my boat's 12V electrical system. Powers a USB GPS, satellite weather receiver and USB to NMEA2000 adapter, all of which draw significant current. Easy to install and bulletproof.
