Flight of the Phoenix (Full Screen Edition)

If you're looking for a way to spend 2 hours of your weekend with a date or family member and want to see a good film, watch this movie! Basically they took the original and adapted it to the modern day, but removed everything bad about it, including over-used British actors(common in that day), a crotchety stubborn Pilot in Jimmy Stewart whom acted more like Mr Potter from "It's a wonderful life" than George Bailey, changed a 3 hour bore-fest that was the original into something shorter that is fast paced from start to finish. Finally they adapted the best CGI and action sequences to the newer version to give us a film that is actually well paced and entertaining. Just try watching the original version after you've seen any of the thrillers or action movies of the 80's and 90's and you probably won't make it past the first 30 minutes, it's that boring. They literally sit around the plane and talk for nearly 2 hours.. About a third of the reviews are from people claiming that this movie was boring, that it wasn't like the original, that it didn't live up to their expectations, but they are way off base. These people think that no movies will ever compare to the black and white movies they grew up that defined the experiences of their generation. These people took movies so seriously they voted Ronald Reagan(an actor) as President!(yes I liked him myself but I'm making a point). They compare every movie with Gone with the Wind and every actor to Shirley Temple. Even taking a movie like this and freshening it up with action and special affects and a few good actors(Dennis Quad, Giovanni Ribisi) would not satisfy many in this older culture. You want to talk about who has a right to voice dissention, talk to 80's and 90's kids and what they've done our movies. At least you didn't have to suffer through Transformers or soon to be Ninja Turtles..(shudders). Well either way this movie will provide an entertaining 2 hours of relaxation for anyone who gives it a chance and the ending is FAR better in the new version than the original.. far better and with more hope.

Great remake

It’s a good movie but not as good as the oỏiginal. The original is so much better, but it’s still entertaining. I bought this one. I have the other one on CD I favor the original.

Item arrived in excellent condition and ahead of time

A rare find if your not bored by the human factor. They used to make movies like this, but not to much in today's slash and gore, bullets flying movies for folks who don't want to think, who just want the pain of their real lives to go away for an hour and a half. Which is okay, but not every time.

Good Movie

This being the remake of the original movie makes it a hard sell. The original movie had much better actors and was more fun to watch. There were several things in this remake I didn't like, including the ending. I suggest you watch the original movie first and then the remake.

リメイク作品らしいですが、まあ面白かったです。 特典映像目当てで特別編購入。送料込みで¥351でした。 飛行機が砂漠の真ん中に不時着。生き延びるためにどうするか。 極限下で、みんな勝手なこと言い出す。 残った食料をどう分け合うだとか、少ししかない水を少しずつ大事に飲めだとか、 ここでじっとしているより移動したほうがいいとか、いや助けを待ったほうがいいとか、誰が皆をまとめるかとか。 彼らは感情むき出しで直ぐに喧嘩を始めます。 銃で威嚇して言うことを聞かせようとしたり、根性論吐いたり、すぐに暴力を振るったりする人には私は個人的に嫌悪感がわきました。 物語の最初から最後まで冷静で、比較的正しい事を言っていたのはエリオットでしたね。私はそう感じました。 これは遭難の映画でしたが、日常での生活や災害時に集団で意見が割れた時に誰に従うか。または自分がどう行動するか。なんてことを少し考えながら観ていました。

Vielleicht sollte man hier mal herausstellen das keine deutsche Sprache angeboten wird. Kommt aus der Beschreibung nicht heraus und andere europäische Sprachen werden angeboten...

Not only did the 2004 version meet my expectations - it actually exceeded them. Although I have never read the book upon which the movies were based (so I cannot say which version is closer to the book), I thoroughly enjoyed the 2004 remake. Dennis Quaid (as Captain Frank Towns) and Giovanni Ribisi (as Elliott - the aircraft designer) are both amazing and deserve special mention. I especially appreciated the full-length audio commentary by director John Moore, as well as the Phoenix Diaries documentary (which I understand was NOT included in the 2006 Blu-Ray version). In addition, the location shooting in the deserts of Namibia combined with the more modern cinematography in the 2004 version - the remake - were spectacular. I find it hard to believe that this remake of Flight of the Phoenix was a box office flop. Also, not sure why there are multiple poor reviews of the 2004 version. True fans will want to own BOTH the 1965 and 2004 versions. By the way, the DVD played perfectly - I am in Region 1 - Canada. The best $12.00 I have ever spent!!

A motivating survival drama in contemporary times with characters we can relate to.

Love this film. Very cheap on blue Ray. Basically plane goes down in the Gobi desert and no one knows where they so it’s make a plan and get out or due! Brilliant story, acting - Dennis Quaid is brilliant and the rest of the crew.
