BLACK DIAMOND RockLock Screwgate/Twistlock Carabiner Keylock Nose Locking

I've enjoyed climbing in various settings for a long, long time. The very first certified-for-climbing carabiners I ever purchased were Black Diamond wire-gate carabiners I got for my very first backpacking tent. Since then, my gear collection has certainly grown a lot, but Black Diamond still makes up a substantial portion of my carabiners and is a brand that I, and clearly many others, have trusted for a long, long time. So when I was looking for a large carabiner with a continuously round/tube design to pair with my RopeMan 1 when building out a custom setup for use as a saddle hunting climbing lanyard, tether, and/or a positioning lanyard for tree work and limb walking, I wasn't surprised at all to find that this RockLock carabiner was the best fit for my needs. I'm using it with the aforementioned RopeMan 1 and 11mm Sterling rope which gives it a nice, tight fit within the RopeMan due to the consistently round and thick frame of this carabiner. While it's absolutely fair to say this is a bit heavier and bigger than some may desire for ultralight climbing, this is a perfect size for my needs as the tight fit with the 11mm rope helps to keep the carabiner from folding or flopping so it's easier to clip on to my D-rings or bridge as needed. And the large gate size makes it equally easy to transition this from serving as a climbing lanyard on the D-rings of the saddle, to a tether connected to the bridge. I opted for the screwgate version simply because of the matte black color and how that'll work better in my hunting setup, and it looks great with that non-flashy, non-shiny finish. But honestly, I'll probably end up getting a twistlock version as well now that I know how well this works if I get another RopeMan to have a totally dedicated rig for a positioning lanyard for faster on/off connections. The screwgate isn't a problem, it's just a little slower. This is perfectly fine for my hunting scenarios since I want to know and trust that the gate is fully secured, and I don't need to make transitions particularly fast. But for positioning purposes I like the idea of having this on the other side for faster switching from dual-anchor points to single-anchoring if I'm going to be stationary and want to triangulate with different lanyards. This carabiner is thick and sturdy and like I said already, I trust it with my life. And one additional positive thing I can say about Black Diamond in general, which certainly also applies to this carabiner, is that they keep their gear reasonably priced in an industry that is rife with gimmicks and price gouging. This carabiner was listed for $19.99, which is honestly on the higher side for what I've paid for BD carabiners in the past, but this is also the largest BD carabiner I think I currently own and that still puts it a fair bit cheaper in cost than Petzl (who I also have plenty of love and trust for) so I'm very grateful that BD continues to make quality, trustworthy gear without sending me into bankruptcy!

Great and reliable carabiner, worth the investment for the security and weight strength. Very light for its capacity. Color makes it easy to see if loc is engaged. Twists by typical screw principles, would trust this with my life and have many times.

Awesome for rappelling, locks up good, has plenty of room for rope wraps and is very affordable. The round bar design allows for smooth rope operations.

Well my purchase of this wasn’t for what you think. You see, I bought this black diamond carabiner because I wanted to propose to my boyfriend in a unique way. We hike often and went on a trail that was so terrifying (to me, who is afraid of heights) that I kept saying I needed a carabiner for support to attach to the cables on the trail. (The trail had ladders too. Terrifying for those of us who aren’t rock climbers). Fast forward a few months, and I decided to propose to him (he had asked before but I wasn’t ready). I wanted to propose with a diamond, but also wanted to be original. This carabiner did the trick. It even has “Black Diamond” stamped on it. I asked, he said yes, so we will take the plunge. With the awesome support of this heavy duty carabiner, of course. Five stars, this definitely worked!

Aside from mountain and rock climbing, this carabiner is handy as grip equipment. It's strong and light enough to carry my video/audo equipment. Big enough around Pelican and suitcase handles while traveling. Black Diamond is the best in the biz.

This is a great carabiner, screw gate old school charm. It works well, strong, well built, with a wide opening for larger ropes and equipment (Pulley's) I like and bought two more for my belay harness. Good Luck.

Very good quality, the carabiner has some weight to it, the spring is strong and the lock rotates effortlessly and stays in place.
