Grrrrrrrreat value for the $ & a second sword, the Quanshenglong Copper Tang
The media could not be loaded. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect when I ordered this sword. I haven’t had any experience with Siwode products. If this is an example, I’m throughly impressed. Right out of the box it was superbly sharp. Glides through paper with ease. Can’t wait to try it on other targets. The blade feels light and nimble in the hands. It has a mirror polish that I think is quite beautiful. The clay tempered Hamon is very nice, but needs bright light to bring forth its real beauty.I paid $168 for this sword and it is worth every cent and more. Something I think you would like is the unique Ito and if I’m not mistaken, the samegawa is a full wrap. I don’t believe it to be real silk, but it has a fine feel and shine to it that affords an excellent grip. The fittings were nice, but rather common fare. I have swords that cost more than twice as much yet half the craftsmanship that went into this fine piece. As delivered, the quality really stands out. No having to sharpen the blade or tighten the fit in the Saya, etc. and pay a lot more money for the privilege. I think this is a superb katana right out of the box ready to perform as intended. I feel sure you would be pleased (Sunflower Copper Tang) as I am. There are quite a few varieties to choose from.JRP. 11/234/14/24 the Quanshenglong Copper Tang arrives. I was so impressed with the Subflower Copper Tang that when its brother went on sale for slightly over $100, I couldn’t resist. The blades are superb on both swords. Real samagawa, but the Ito is not very impressive on this one. That’s the only take away from an otherwise fantastic katana. Balance is excellent and sharp as hell right out of the box, the way it should be. Great starter sword for someone looking to get into Japanese style swords, and it on SALE!

well made, much better quality than the price would suggest
The media could not be loaded. The Ito wrap color on mine was darker and more of a copper color than the bright orange in the product photos. I don't know if this is just the new/current version or if mine was a one off. I like the copper color more than the bright orange of the product photos. The fit, finish and materials quality of this katana far surpasses the asking price. I've had katanas that were over twice what this costs and this katana meets them on most aspects and exceeds them in others. The blade looks like other T10 blades in my collection. Beautiful Hamon line and good polish. Came very sharp, cut printer paper without issue. The Habaki seems like standard brass Habaki. The Saya is fit very well, no rubbing or rattle issues and is a secure fit. Decoratively speaking, it's pretty plain, black with gloss black speckles. The Sageo is nice and thick, definitely not leftover Ito wrap that you usually see for katanas in this price bracket. Sageo came wrapped as you see it in the product photos, I rewrapped it to what you see in my photos/video. It's a very easy to learn wrap that I think looks much better than the standard wrap you see or the wrap this katana came with. The Tsuka is surprising for a katana of this price. The Ito wrap is superb, tighter than katanas that cost 2-3 times as much. The ray skin underneath feels and looks like real ray skin, like on my other katanas. From my inspection, it's a full wrap instead of panels. Unheard of for this price point. It probably helps a lot to keep that Ito wrap nice and tight, it doesn't budge. All the fittings look and feel of high quality, with good detail to them, I definitely wasn't expecting this level of quality for this price.I liked this katana so much that I bought 2 others from this product line, the Xiangrikui (blue) and the Quanshenglong (red) versions. Each of these cost $50 less and the difference seems to be just in the Tsuka area. The Ito wrap on the less expensive versions are less complicated and not as tight and they used ray skin panels instead of a full ray skin wrap. The rest of the katana, quality wise, is the same. Either versions are amazing values.

Terrific first ornamental katana - factor in price it is exceptional
It seems the last few years interest in owning a “real” katana has gone off the charts. There are tons of you tube videos, and many folks who lack the basics when it comes to reviewing these weapons - yes, I said weapons.I am not qualified to offer a professional review. I have handled knives. I have studied the instruction of them and yes even the katana. So here is my ‘ordinary man’ review. The blade is straight, has good heft and came sharp - not razor sharp. They are not intended to be razor sharp if cutting mats. The wrap looks good, nice small diamonds, and the parachute wrap in olive green is attractive. The hamon looks good. Tried wiping a small spot and appears to be real. The blade is a bit forward heavy and has no bohi or what you would call a blood groove. For ornamentation it’s great and a good value. If you want to take a random swing at something it will probably hold up - but keep in mind you could cause yourself great damage if you don’t know what you are doing so take care! And finally if you want a weapon who’s primary focus is ‘battle ready’ usage you are being unreasonable. These would run you much, much more than the asking price if $139.00. You surely wouldn’t buy a Scion and take it to the race track. Sure your car and a race car have a steering wheel and four tires but they are completely different. This is a great buy - looks great - and could do some damage. But that’s it - a good introductory Katana that will look great in your wall. And yes - it’s worth the money in my opinion.
