The nutrition content of this product has changed drastically over the past year. I am including a photo of both the current label and the previous nutrition label for comparison. The previous version of this molasses had 10 fewer calories per tbsp AND contained RDAs of calcium 20% and iron 25%. That was the reason I purchased this product, but now it has 60 cals per tbsp and only Calcium 12% and iron 11%. So disappointed!

Love, love, *love* this brand of molasses. I had previously tried and reviewed the Plantation brand. Just as another reviewer mentioned in answer to my question about taste, G.B. is slightly more pronounced. It's also "smoother" and has less of a bite in the aftertaste. I really like it. Plantation is generally priced higher, especially when I purchase locally. I will be using blackstrap probably the rest of my life just for the energy and other health benefits. This large size G.B. brand is my choice for pricing, flavor and nutrition. If you find the taste of any b.s.m. too strong, try mixing it with a dairy product (I actually mix into my soy vanilla and drink it or put the mix in my cereal), or adding it to smoothies. I've seen several recipes online, but I like coming up with my own. I also like to add some of the b.s.m. to plain, low-fat greek yogurt. That keeps me from buying sweeter, flavored yogurt while letting me enjoy the taste. I have been using this for a few weeks now and, in addition to the energy boost, I notice a difference in the health of my hair. Pretty good effects for something that is chem-free and natural.

I use this in sauce with soy sauce, vinegar, garlic and onion powders, turmeric and black pepper and red Chile sauce and can't get enough of it. Add crunchy peanut butter to that mix with rice and it's soooo good. I use it with my shampoo and my hair has never felt better.ive used it along with coconut oil and honey as a skin treatment and this stuff is great. Is a great value too. This gallon has lasted me months.

I just started working with molasses and found myself needing a LOT of it. After quite a bit of research I decided to order the Golden Barrel Bulk Unsulfured Blackstrap Molasses.The first reason was one excellent review comparing them to a very high quality product. The second reason is that the price is excellent. I am comparing these to Mother Hubbard's Unsulfured Molasses because that's the only kind I've ever used.Please note, this is a liquid gallon and the molasses averages to a very reasonable cost per ounce. After baking 12 dozen molasses cookies using the Golden Barrel brand I highly recommend them.They have, in my opinion, a stronger molasses taste than Mother Hubbard's. When I was first mixing the cookie dough I thought it may be too strong. Once I had the cookies baked and cooled the cookies tasted better than ever.I also made a large batch of homemade barbecue sauce with the molasses. Again, at first I thought the taste would be too strong, but after simmering for a couple of hours, cooling, refrigerating and reheating the flavor is perfect.I highly recommend these molasses. I also like the fact that these are manufactured in Lancaster County, PA. If anyone knows molasses it's those who live in Lancaster County, PA. My grandmother, a proud Quaker who grew up in that area, would be pleased with these molasses and the wonderful cookies they made.

I didn't buy this galloon jug of molasses (primarily) for cooking purposes, I bought it to make worm/compost tea for my garden. So I would be speaking of the taste...However, I will say that its thick and dark like the other molasses I have bought from the grocery store (Grandma's)... but bulk value makes this way cheaper in the long run. I was paying about $5.50 for a 12 oz jar... If I bought the same amount of those to equal a gallon... it would cost over $50. This is $20. so there you go.Big fan of this discovery! It has a shelf life of 3 years so that makes buying in bulk not super intimating to use before it goes bad.

It's a good source of potassium, although the gallon bottle does not list it on the label. The smaller bottle lists the potassium level at 9%, which is one of the highest I have seen. I think Mother Hubbard's might be a little higher, but they're comperable. The taste of GB is kind of bitter IMO. It's not bad. It just has a bit of a bite. I think I like Mother Hubbard and Brer Rabbit more, but Brer Rabbit is expensive. This two gallon pack of Golden Barrel is a good value, plus it lasts for years, so I won't worry about it spoiling. I use it every day in my morning coffee.

I bought this because I heard in passing conv. from an old man at the barbers this (Blackstrap) is what he always takes for his hair. Bald is in my family and I noticed a tiny patch. I have taken 3 spoons a day since I bought this and that patch is no longer visible. I feel a little better too in energy levels. My beard also doesn't fill in so well on the sides (chin and stache but not sides) so I never tried to grow it out. I have freaky long hairs growing out my sides I never had before drinking this popping up all of the place I get to shave off now.I don't know why it works, and it's an aimless grow,but this stuff grows hair!The taste isn't bad. I just gulp the spoon. I didn't like the taste for the first week or two. It was deceptively sweet but with a bitter back bite. I grew to like it and now I'm licking the spoon clean.

I feel like my body must have been craving blackstrap molasses. It has a very unique taste, but I did eat it growing up once a year maybe... I guess enough to have given me taste buds for liking it. I have read about the many minerals and enzymes it contains. I am using it in my morning coffee with cream. Feels like a bulletproof coffee. My nervous system says thank you!
