Diary of Edward the Hamster 1990-1990 Hardcover – Illustrated, September 26, 2013

I bought We Do Christmas on major markdown at a Museum Shop's after Christmas sale and laughed non-stop. So I ordered the other books by the same authors through Amazon and they are all amazingly funny. Yes, they are snarky and cynical but so am I.

The book itself is witty, dark and original, however for the price of a hardback, the cover looked like it had been heavily used when I bought it from Amazon supposedly brand new. The book is about a hamster named Edward and how is dealing with a level of intelligence that seems to be above other hamsters. He gets very philosophical at times as he deals with hamster struggles such as an annoying half-wit roommate, a lover that dies young, attempting to rebel against his human owners such as starving himself (which doesn't work). It is a short little book that is surprisingly funny and equally dark following the short life of Edward the Hamster.

I didn't know what to expect since I bought it because of the NPR recommendation. But I have to say, what a little gem! I got it for me and my teenage daughter loved it too. It has so many delightful levels. Existential. Silly. Sad. Absurd. Reminds me of a combination of Beckett and How to Massage Your Cat. The illustrations are wonderful too. I think it would be a great gift for a teenager or college student since it takes a very brief time to read.

Very funny book. Bought 1 copy for myself and 1 for a friend. If you are into dark/sarcastic humor, this is for you.

This quirky book is hilarious especially if you like a dry wit. It’s intended for young adults and older.

This book made Christmas for my granddaughter a little easier and it made her laugh which made me laugh. This first year after her dad died was a tough one for her and for me, and we grabbed any laughter we could get! Thanks, Edward!

It is about a 25 min read and I must have laughed out loud a hundred times. Was also fun reading it out loud to a friend and have them laugh too. There are also many life messages and dark places but this is an absolute do not miss!!!

I've never been so moved or affected by a book I read this insightful, concise, deeply moving and highly erudite diary. Recommended reading for all existentialists, nihilists, post-modernists and hamster lovers.

A well made good quality book. I was looking for a book which my teenage son and I would both appreciate, this proved to be a good buy, we both could appreciate the humour and creativity in the unique illustrations. It brought us laughter even though it depicted the sad tale of a hamsters short life.

Having owned numerous hamsters I saw this and couldn't resist. If you've ever looked at your pet and thought, 'wonder what they are thinking', then this is ideal for you.But its not just a dairy, its a tongue in cheek and clever, somewhat macabre in places, look at life through the eyes of a caged hamster.It is very funny...regardless of whether you've owned a hamster or not, but I guarantee if you have owned a hamster you will relate.

I bought this for my dad as we used to own hamsters together and our sense of humor is very similar. It was short but a novelty item for a good read, although it's supposed to be in diary form many of the pages had only a few sentences on, but this added to the humor in some senses, just something to consider and know in advance!
