AGATHA RAISIN SERIES 3

Not up to its standards
I was disappointed in this third season. I felt the some characters became too cartoonish (Chief Inspector), her friend Roy lost depth of character, the over-the-top Mrs. Bogles got too silly for me. The last episode was the most forced as even Agatha trailed a suspect with numerous falls and gags. I think bringing a new romantic character for Det. Wong was a good move. Overall the production felt rushed. I probably won't get season 4 if there is one. Acorn may not continue this unique show, which would be sad, for it did have a place in lighter-hearted mystery fare.

A total dumpster fire.
I am a big fan of Agatha Raisin, so this series was a devastating disappointment. It's hard to believe this even made it to the public. Terrible scripts, ridiculous plots, bad acting, worse directing. I can't believe anyone involved in this series would want this out in the public eye. I'm embarrassed for all of them. I've heard a series 4 in the making, but I won't be suckered again.

losing track
Series one and two were what made this show so enjoyable. In Series three the characters seem worn out and as a result there is a heavy handedness in the actors approach to their rolls. The plot lines reflect their forced efforts. It seems obvious that this series has run its course

Should I get the AcornTV Channel added to my ever increasing fee for Amazon Prime?
The answer to that query, darlings, is a decided yes! When you consider a show like "Agatha Raisin" and the hours of good, clean, fun for the whole family it is a money well spent indeed! It is witty, fun, a delight! With so many series of this ilk; the "who done it", I, like many of you, find myself picking up the "formulaic plot" easily and dang, I know who HAS done it. But truthfully, "Agatha Raisin" is as if the love-child of Sir A. C. Doyle and Lily Tomlin were writing these scripts! They are just too much fun, you can watch it with all the family, you WILL be left guessing right to the end who the "perp" is. I feel I should warn you, dear Reader, this is a highly "bingeable" series and you should plot your free time to accommodate. Which only adds to whole family friendliness of the series. You can watch with your teens, and their friends and come off as "just another one of Granny's shows" at all. When you consider the cost of taking the family out to your local first run style cinema, you may find yourself eating PB&J's for month of lunches at work! (Not that PB&J isn't already your favorite!) After a month or two, you might just start thinking that a dill pickle is a good complement to peanut butter!!?? And what if there is no one around to talk you down from that horror??!! So, skip the dill pickle, don't ruin PB&J's for yourself and your spouse. So,get the AcornTV Channel if only for a month, and if only for the happy hours you will enjoy watching just this one show! I found "Agatha Raisin" to be quite worth the extra expense and I am sure you will too! So, if you do give it a go, let me know what you think! Am I off my nut or did you find it just "so-so", or was it the "Main Attraction" or something totally unlike anything you ever saw and don't wish to repeat that mistake!! I will be eager to learn what you have to say! Cheers!

Fun, but...
The third season of Agatha Raisin has four episodes. In both Series 2 and 3 an extra disk is included in each set that is a waste. It would be far better if the extra disk of "features" were additional episodes. When one of three disks is basically fluff, the packages are not the bargain they appear to be. The humor remains, but the four featured episodes are not as good as Series 1 which is pure entertainment. It is worth noting that the exterior footage of the Cotswolds is beautiful.

What the heck happened?
We just watched the first episode of season 3 on Acorn. I wish I had seen it before I purchased the entire season. It was awful. Everything has changed, and not for the better. I miss Gemma and her relationship with Agatha. None of the characters, with the exception of Bill, seem like real people. They’ve all become caricatures. Her new “agency/home” borders on bizarre. Her wardrobe went from colorfully stylish to garish. The writing and direction are awful. The acting is even worse. Everything is over the top. The things that were the most enjoyable about Agatha have been exaggerated to the point where she is now a cartoon version of her former self. She went from delightfully quirky and lovable to buffoonish and unpleasant. It was all very manic. Hated it. If I could give it less than one star, I would. And my husband hated it even more than I did. We are so disappointed as we loved the first two seasons.

Nice set good value
My only "complaint" is that the case is quite flimsy. I did feel that the first episode Agatha was different - the cast not quite in stride. It was ok but just different.... After that I loved it. The new characters are great, plots are great, funny and and full of energy. Cant wait for next season!

the best of the series
A friend recommended this series. I slowly got used to the quirky characters. This series reminds me of the screwball comedies of the past. the dialogue is fast & funny & the story lines are original. I wish they would give Officer Wilkes better dialogue & not make him so much of an ass - his character is knowledgeable & has a big heart but it's hard to imagine someone so inept could rise to the rank of DCI unless all he is good at is passing exams. I am looking forward to the 4th series!

Really good
I really did love series 3 of Agatha Raisin.........But you can tell the Americans are footing the bill now as there are more 'Americanisms' than ever here's a quick rundown for example Agatha has NEVER cared about Madonna, secondly she wouldn't be compared to Marilyn Monroe she's English she'd be compared to Fiona Bruce or Nigela Lawson etc. We don't have posters with pull off phone number tabs that's so American it's ridiculous this is Carsely in the Cotswolds!! Who in England has ever referenced my fair lady?? And the constant mispronounciation of Mircester was particularly annoying. And the list of things we'd never say; James Schmames that's really high school American, we don't say 'it sucks, everything sucks' plus what the hell happened to Toni Gilmour they've made her a vacuous moron rather than the strong independent girl she's supposed to be, and she's not nor ever has been Gemma's cousin! Bring back Katie Wix! Okay Toni has a good memory for facts and numbers but she's really quite daft. In the books James did have an affair with the Author Melissa Shepard. I see now that the new people making Agatha Raisin will just continue to ignore the true Agatha Raisin stories and write whatever they want! The stories were good to a certain extent but so much about it annoyed me too, and it will I believe irritate all real Agatha Raisin fans, the cast saved the day though, they were all so wonderful as always, they did make James a bit too like a lap dog though he's supposed to be of the colder older man type. I did like the fact that Bill found happiness though. However Sarah Bloxby has never expressed any desire to be a vicar, so if they do continue down that path then they really have well and truly begun to ignore the books and stories altogether, as I said I loved all the actors, they made it work, but the writing and stories are slipping badly, they need to be careful now or they may end up cancelled too, the British won't watch a TV series that's been made about them that's not in the realms of reality. Mixed reviews from me I'm afraid, we'll have to wait and see what series 4 brings.

AGATHA RAISIN SERIES 3 from ACORN
I don't get any pleasure from writing negative reviews, but I can't do anything other than write my honest thoughts about what is almost a travesty of a series. Maybe never intended for me? No, I think not. I loved the radio series with the wonderful Penelope Keith, who really was Agatha to a "T". Sadly Ashley Jensen isn't. She gurns and falls over and acts like an idiot for every episode. I don't hold Ashley entirely responsible. There is such a thing as a director and a writer who share the blame. This is a pity as the rest of the cast works their socks of (Mathew Horne/Lucy Lieman to name but two), and it all looks lovely with some interesting "guests" (spot Patsy Kensit!). I also quarrel wthi the character of the Inspector (Jason Barnet I think). This chacter is a joke, and not in a funny way. I squirmed at the ridiculous dialogue and actions the actor had to perform. Loved Lucy Liehman as the Vicar's wife. If you like Ashley and "cozy" (I hate that word) crime thrillers this could well ring your bell. Not mine though.

Nothing like the books.
I was so disappointed to find out that none of the actors are anything like the description of Agatha and other characters in her books. It spoils it for me, but my husband hasn't read the books so he just accepts them. Also the plots are only loosely like the books. So be prepared to have a cast of young people instead of the books age groups. Quite a let down. This applies to all 3 of the dvd's

Good but some niggles.
Good but not as good as Series 1 and 2. Having said that, the cast of actors was excellent. If anything, Ashley Jensen's performance was usurped by several of the other cast members although she was very good. I was disappointed in the sound quality: the dialogue was slightly out of sync and the volume rumbled unpleasantly at 'loud' parts of the story, although that may have been my dvd player or speakers.

Great series. Terrible dvd condition
I loved the show but, whoever is selling this needs to be ashamed. It didn't play well and judderered a lot. When I took the disk out, it was covered in finger prints. Bought, "as new". I'm always careful and know they are not mine.I moved on and cleaned the disk, hopefully, it will help. Love the, story line and the cast. The seller needs a good kick up the arse. This was appalling service for a brilliant product.
