Its a US Made tool excellent brand so I figured when I bought it nothing would be wrong with it and it would work perfectly and thats what it did - unlike the broken China made extractor it replaced. This tool did not strip out or seize so badly on the stud it could not be removed But being stripped it would turn with out removing the stud - I cut off the end of the stud with the china extractor and the Mayhew was able to extract the stud stub and this tool actually came off and was able to be used again! - I am still in the process of replacing all the China made tools I have with Non China Made Tools, this was something I did not think about until I needed it - I would recommend.....

Mayhew to the Rescue!
Situation: DIY'er now, but did shop auto repair for years, know my way around a wrench. Facing seized muffler flange, some damage to threads. Wanted to salvage and rethread. Tried Stringer metric stud remover based on Amazon review. Did not engage stud for removal. My sense is the product would be fine on studs in good condition. Description could have been more specific (but that's the subject of another review). Had Mayhew for back-up. The product description clearly stated the stud remover would work on studs in all condition and boy did it! As advertised. Use in tandem with impact gun (not for hand use), and it will make your life easier. I was most impressed as it did the job with no added heat (heat will damage tool), usually a must ingredient for a successful stud removal recipe. I would recommend this highly for stud removal as the gradual tightening action is less destructive than the removers that require a hammer and if not used properly will just chew up a stud. I don't know if there is a remover that's universally successful in every situation, since positioning outside of an ideal "bench" situation can render any stud remover useless. Know your situation and it's limitations. But if you look at the picture and feel you can get it in position for your job, it will kick ass. Keep in mind when you get it, it will be bigger than you might think. Good tool.

Works perfectly if you have the room for it.
It works really well if you have the space to use it.I could not get it onto the partial studs protruding out of the exhaust manifold. After cutting them off and removing the manifold I had more access to the studs and it removed them easily. It is 3 inches long and almost 2 inches wide, if the area you have to attach it to your stud is close this will not work but if you have room it works pretty good. In the picture attached, after removing the manifold I was able to extract 8 studs and only broke one using this tool.I would have given it 5 stars, but it's just too bulky to use in cramped areas.

I ordered the Mayhew (instead of the less expensive one) because of availability) extractor as i was desparate. Leaving on Saturday and on Tuesday the exhaust bolt was still not out (snapped off on Sunday). After 10 minutes with this tool (mostly looking for the right very large wrenches) the stud was out. Thanks for a quality product. For my peace of mind, worth every penny.

I was happy. Then
Worked once, broke, then didn't work for any of my other studs for various reasons. My first broken stud had maybe 2.5" protruding - couldn't get it out any other way, I was happy. Then, when I was releasing the chuck again, I backed it up too far and broke the tool's snap ring. Probably can get it repaired under warranty, and it wasn't a huge issue. It couldn't remove the next stud, which had about 1" protruding. There just wasn't enough length, I guess. The tool would grab, but after tightening it more, it would just pop off.The next two studs I couldn't remove for clearance issues. The next full length stud I tried to remove sheared right off at the engine block.

Great stud extractor
This tool works better than expected.. I remove a lot of broken bolts and wish I had one of these years ago. If the stud is sticking out far enough to grab with this tool, try it first.. sometimes it takes it out. If it doesn't, you are back where you started. But if it does, you won on this one. Results vary depending on engine block or head age and condition.

What a Fantastic Stud Extractor!!
This works fantastically, I've never seen anything work so great except for one out of three. The one it wouldn't work on was damaged by me trying to get it out before and actually made the stud smaller than this extractor was made for. Luckily I ordered the Lisle 19250 remover and had to use the size smaller, hammered it on the stud but even then it started twisting on the stud. After applying some heat to the head, not the stud, it started turning out and made me some kinda happy!!

Works.
This worked great. Before using this I would recommend dripping some heavy oil inside of it. The threads inside of mine felt very rough and couldn't be turned by hand. I used this to remove some stainless exhaust studs on a Toyota Tacoma with stainless TRD exhaust. Two of the three bolts came out fine with this tool. The other stud broke once when removing the nut then a second time when using the stud extractor(not the tools fault).I bought the Mayhew tool knowing some of their tools are made in the USA. This one was not, mine was labeled made in Malaysia. I think for the price/country of origin it may have been better to buy the Titan Stud extractor(probably not made in the us). The only stud extractor I found in this style/made in the USA was made by Snap-On and was over 250$.

Diesel Tech- Worked perfectly
Bought for a personal project, but is currently in my tool box at work (Kenworth Tech) for future use. Continued to "bite" at very high torque pressure- it broke some rusted studs off but did not slip. I usually use stud installers to remove broken studs when needed. This will damage the stud, but will get it out- not a problem during removal. Stud installers won't damage the stud, but can't grip this well. Perfect for broken exhaust manifold studs/bolts. Do not know if the cheaper version would have worked just as well- the price I paid for this version was worth the results I got.

Best investment
I do a lot of engine replacements either short or long blocks. I remove a lot of intake & exhaust studs from the fubar engine so i can transfer them and maaan this tool takes them all off without any problems and it shows light collateral damage but the nuts that fasten the manifolds dont struggle or stripe. Great tool. I bought it because i was tired of borrowing other technicians stud remover set which was bs compared to this tool.

Doesn't work on m8 studs.
Read a review on another site saying it doesn't work on a m8 stud. Figured maybe they did it wrong. Wouldn't expect this to work on an 1/4 neither. All the way tightened on the m8 it was just slowly turning and felt like it was removing the stud but just grated the outside off. Find the ones that get tighter are you loosen and not one that must be adjusted before loosening.

Simply amazing. I cannot say enough about this tool
Had a broken exhaust stud in an aluminum cylinder head. Stud broke off about 1/2" above the head, was rusty, stuck, etc. A nightmare. Tried torch, vice grips, fluted extractors, etc. to no avail. Ordered the Mayhew Stud Extractor, put it in my little 3/8" cordless electric impact wrench and had the stud out in less than 10 seconds with no damage to the cylinder head. Simply amazing. I cannot say enough about this tool. Everyone who works on an engine at any point NEEDS one of these.

It's ok. I purchased and paid extra thinking it was made in the USA (description had indication it was made in the USA). It is actually made in Taiwan. Could have paid half as much for a similar made in Taiwan option.....

This tool is a must have if you're prone to bust heads.
I cannot believe it took me as long to find this great tool. No more welding on a nut or drilling and tapping. I recently broke off two head bolts and completely freaked out. Had less than 1/4 threads exposed and while it took a bit of back and forth, this tool saved me from having to let the shop remove them which would have added at least another $100 to my rebuild. I'm going to see if I can find a smaller one right now.

Nice tool box paper weight.
This would work pretty good except the tip area is the size of a drill chuck. Almost always a broken stud is in some hard to get to tight area and does not allow room for this tool to slide over it. The broken stud would also have to be pretty long. I guess you can also use it to install new studs but it seems there are better methods than this which do not risk damaging the threads on the new bolt.
