Kokopelli's Flute

Kokopelli's Flute is a delightful fantasy. It centers around a family of three who live in the desert and raise "heritage seeds". Heritage seeds are seeds for plants that have fallen out of favor in our commercial times. Seeds cannot survive forever. They must be planted and new seeds harvested in order to keep the DNA from becoming extinct. Against this background, the son visits an ancient cliff dwelling. He discovers some men are trying to illegally ransack the ruins for artifacts they can sell. In the course of this discovery, he takes possession of a bone flute. When he blows on the flute he enables some magic that transforms him into an animal every night. He discovers that being an animal has its benefits but also many dangers! He needs to thwart the criminals and also discover how to negate the flute's magic. In addition to enjoying an engrossing story, one learns a great deal of factual material about heritage seeds and archeology. I have enjoyed all the titles that I have read by this author but I think this is one of my favorites.

Step aside Norse trickster gods. Move over Greek and Roman pals of Percy Jackson. Stand down Set and Bastet and other Egyptian gods from the Red Pyramid. Kokopelli is the ultimate trickster; the ubiquitous, transformative, infinitely variable symbol of the American Southwest. Kokopelli is everywhere, in everyone's stories, at all of the ancient sites, in all of the drawings, petroglyphs and pictographs. Every kid should know Kokopelli. Will Hobbs does a great job of introducing us to the legendary Kokopelli, the modern Kokopelli, and the power that K represents, while also providing a Four Corners travel guide, and an introduction to ancient southwest culture. This is an honest book, and an exciting book, and it treats its characters, and the reader, fairly. A well recommended change of pace from standard current fantasy/adventure series.

I was totally surprised by events in the story. It is a great read especially for young boys. Each page of the story adds to the mystery. This Colorado battle of the books entry is a delightful read!

This is a great book, it was enthralling especially for me after going and seeing some Indian art featuring kokopelli. The conclusion was kind of frustrating, I wanted to know more about where Kokopelli came from and where he was going.

Nice condition and price

I have been intrigued with Kokopelli for a long time and knew there was a story behind his magic flute so was glad to find a novel on it. Was interesting and entertaining..

This author is the best. His stories for boys are exciting and will keep them interested. He particularlly gives a good account of the history of a place and it's people.
