Great Guidance
Every summer I buy workbooks for my two boys. This year I chose Kumon, I purchase the whole collection of Grade 4 for my son going into 4th grade and the whole collection of Grade 3 (thinking Grade 2 would be too easy) for my son going into 2nd grade. Later on I found that my younger son had difficulties in some areas in Grade 3 so I bought Grade 2.This has been a great guidance for my kids and I. The books helped my kids learn step by step and I really do see improvements. Its great for me, I simply use the answer sheet to correct and it helps me find out what their weaknesses are. Overall I really like Kumon workbooks compare to previous companies that I have purchased because I do see improvements. Next year I will purchase Kumon again.

Great way to practice
This is great help to practice word problems with my child and I don’t have to make up stuff. We just work couple a day.

Appropriate for a 2nd grader
The math functions themselves seem appropriate for a 2nd grader to me--addition and subtraction with up to 3 digits, that kind of thing. There's a lot of mix of difficulty for the math involved; a single lesson can have a problem as easy as 5-3 and later on, a problem involving 2 or even 3 digit numbers. For a word problems workbook, I would have expected problems that require more concept-level thinking (what operation is needed here?). The problems provide plenty of repeat practice for basic math functions, but there's not much mix of types of problems in each lesson, so the student isn't really required to do much critical thinking in figuring out what approach to use in solving the problem. Once the student solves the first problem or two, the rest of the problems are pretty predictable. I would prefer to have quicker math functions involved if it meant my daughter had to spend more time critically evaluating the path to the solution.

great resource for child
I really like this workbook. The word problems are written in a way that makes the child really think about the answers. Each problem has a different way of asking the same type of questions to get your child thinking about what is truly being asked. It takes a little work on the parents part to skim through each lesson to validate whether the problems are more advanced than what has been previously taught (inches converted to feet, etc.). I really like this book and feel that it is a good supplement to what my daughter is being taught.

Great books for the summer before the school year
These are such a great exercise for your kid during summer to keep the kids skill level up so they could match or scale up to the school workload very easily.

Best math workbook!
I purchased all three books on 2nd grade math (Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems) for my daughter when she was at her summer break before entering 2nd grade. We practiced almost every day and by the time she started her classes at school she knew how to add and subtract 3-digit numbers with confidence. These work books are excellent alternative to expensive Kumon classes. It's mid October and we are almost done with the second grade Addition, Subtraction and Word Problems. She scored above average at her school as a result whereas before she couldn't add even 1-digit numbers without using her fingers. I'm very satisfied with her progress within such a short period of time. Will continue buying these books.Highly recommended!
