Amazon Basics 3-Piece Tin Snips Set – Left, Right and Straight Cut

This 3-piece tin snip set from Amazon Basics is a versatile and reliable addition to any toolkit, perfect for cutting sheet metal, stainless steel, and even thick plastic that standard scissors wouldn't manage. The straight-cut snips work effectively with materials up to 18-gauge mild steel (1.2 mm thick) and handle thinner stainless steel fairly well, provided it’s not overly thick. The left- and right-cut snips are better suited for thinner materials like 20-22 gauge mild steel (0.8 to 0.6 mm thick). While they might not be the best choice for any heavy-duty metalwork, they’re ideal for light projects requiring precision and control. Beyond metal, I’ve found these snips surprisingly great for cutting through thicker plastics. The serrated blades maintain a firm grip on materials, ensuring clean cuts, and the sharpness is decent enough for consistent performance. The rubberized handles are comfortable to grip and make cutting easier on the hands and the latch lock is a thoughtful addition for safe storage. Overall, these snips deliver great value for a wide range of cutting needs. Whether you’re working with metals or thick plastics, this set offers durability and functionality at a reasonable price.

Out of the box these performed much better than I thought that they would. Bear in mind that these are not Bessey, Facom or Milwaukee either as I bought when a full time engineer. These will, as they were, today, only used on thin mild steel, copper or aluminium. For steel the most I would go to is 1.2mm (18swg) avoiding stainless completely. Having said that, they feel pretty sturdy and the action is nice and positive with an action not dissimilar to far more expensive tools. They fit nicely to the hand and the left hand, right hand and straight cut versions give a neat cut which allows the easy following of curved lines too. These are a budget set, but they feel extremely well made with a good positive grip that gives the user the feel of a far more expensive tool. If you don’t overtax them, they’ll work fine for a hobbyist, just treat them with respect and I suspect they’ll give good service.

Does the job! A bargain buy. Solidly built, easy to grip, and sharp enough to cut cleanly. Quite a strong spring action so tiring to use for an extended period. A little on the heavy side.

Inside, outside and straight cuts, well made and sturdy with good quality blades.

Great

These were great on thin sheet metal, but would not cut on the slightly thicker sheet material, so had to send them back and purchased another brand.

Great quality product ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent

Like the prompt delivery and of course the sturdy product too

The Amazon Basics aviation snip set is surprisingly solid for the price. Each pair (straight, left, and right cut) feels sturdy, cuts sheet metal cleanly, and the grips are comfortable for extended use. I’ve already used them on ductwork and aluminum trim with no problem. A great budget-friendly set that performs like more expensive brands.
