Very interesting mystery. Recommend for grades 3-5.
Mariella is part of the Mystery Girls with two of her friends. They like to solve mysteries. Their teacher has seen what appears to be the ghost of her deceased guinea pig in her garden. The Mystery Girls set out to investigate this strange phenomenon while also preparing for the talent show. Following the trail of the guinea pig leads them to many strange events but nothing keeps Mariella away from solving her case. There are many pencil drawing throughout the book which add interest. But on many pages, I felt like there were too many illustrations, distracting me from the mystery. The mystery itself was extremely interesting and kept me guessing until the very end. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a more simple lay out. I had to stop often to look at pictures or side information. This book is advertised as an early chapter book starting at grade 2. But I think early readers will have a more difficult time with the cluttered layout. I would recommend this book for grade 3-5.

A Fun Book!
This was a fun story, the way it was written reminds me a lot of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid stories as it is formatted in such a way that it varies from journal entry to timeline to dialogue and my eldest daughter simply loved this. My eldest also loves a good mystery so this book was a perfect fit. The book provides a nice combination of humor and mystery to make the overall book fun and lively. All-in-all the book was a quick read, but it engaged my daughter from beginning to end and in the end she was excited about reading her next Mariella Mystery story!*I received this for review - all opinions are my own*
