Works exactly as advertised
Used one of the original plug-in-the-wall Pik units back in the '60s as a kid. Considered it a chore. 50 years later, with gingival issues, I didn't realize then how important it was. The PLUS is a great product. Battery good for about 2 weeks of use (once with regular tip, once with pocket-pic, daily,) and a large enough water reservoir. You can safely ignore the poor guy who complained about the tip "spinning around" because he was too ignorant or stupid to actually insert the tip into the unit properly. I recommend it to everyone. Gingivitis (which affects almost everyone, eventually) can lead to increasing pocket depths, which contributes to bone loss, which, if bad enough, will lead to tooth loss. Those scary pamphlets in your dentist's office have a valid point. Not a good road to go down, unless you admire the toothless hillbilly look. There have been many published dental studies (I read about 40 of them on-line in the Journal of Periodontology) that confirm the efficacy of disruption of bacteria whether physically or chemically (by, say, chlorhexidine,) and the PLUS (and Pocket-Pik tip) are good tools in that ongoing war. Cheap at twice the price, but don't use it to remove ear wax (one study details how you'll rupture your eardrum.) Update: After about a month of use, it seems to be consistently good for about 2 dozen or so uses between charges. Speaking of charging, someone commented about corrosion on the charging contact pins. It's true -- I noticed minor corrosion almost immediately. It would have been better if Water-Pik had provided some sort of plug/barrier to keep water out of the plug-in cavity, or, better yet if they had used an induction-charge system with no contact points or pins as do many electric toothbrushes and other devices (either would make the product slightly more expensive, the later more so, but it would be well worth the extra dollar or three.) But, unfortunately, they didn't. Nonetheless, the corrosion problem is easily solved without buying any Radio Shack parts. Carefully scrape any minor corrosion off of the pins with the tip of a knife and use an inch of tape (anything that's about 1/2" wide) over the plug-in cavity to keep water out of the plug-in cavity while in use between charges. Hopefully, they read this stuff and will either add some sort of (attached to the unit) plug or go to an induction-type re-charge method on the next version of the PLUS, if they haven't already concluded that one or the other is a good idea. In any case, I still HIGHLY recommend the PLUS. It gets all sorts of stuff out of your mouth that brushing and flossing can't and don't.

Good news. Just spoke to Waterpik. They will replace the leaking part for free (One day out of 2 year warranty)
After 2 .5 years the battery gave out. Because how itwas listed when you put Waterpik into the search boox, a different irrigator is snuggled in below the waterpiks and says its the NEW AND IMPROVED version MISLEADING one to believe it is also by waterpik. I fell for it and after ordering it was dissatisfied. I chatted with Amazon and they said they would send me a new waterpk on SAME DAY SERVICE at their expense for the confusion. I am so pleased with my ointeractions with AMAZON on EVERY LEVEL (been with them for 3 years now) that I can not recommend the company more highly!. The new waterpik arrived 17 hours after talking to them (Amazon) and I now have the product that far outdoes the "new improved" model by another company. See my review of their item. It's great. I now mix the mouthwash I use in it with water (seems a 50/50 blend works fine) and it delivers as advertised. It runs long enough (ample amount in fact since I often have contents left over) Is light and maneuverable has 2 power ratings although I only need the hi setting. When I take it off the charger it seems to run forever! I left it off for over 3 weeks and it never stopped working. I put it back on the charger since my other items on my 2 outlets thinned out so I never did find it's maximum battery (non ac connect) point. I think I will recommend this battery to TESLA. I guess my only silly issue is how they created the hole stopper where you put the liquid into the holder. It works fine, don't get me wrong. But once you buy it, it LOOKS as though it will come open. (IT NEVER HAS) which is somewhat of a miracle of design Perhaps I should simply change my rating to 5 stars....lol Well the replacement came through and it does not leak. I am very happy they did replace it because when it coincidentally started dripping two years to the DAY (on a Sunday) that it was covered for on a 2 year warranty that I had no idea was in force, the kind lady at Waterpik realized how close I was to the deadline that she simply replaced it. I didn't even have to tell her that I tried first Amazon on Sunday who advised me to call Waterpik first in order to get this resolved. So as far as Waterpik knew, I was one day out of warranty and I didn't bother to tell her that I DID try on Sunday but they were closed. I feel good about them backing their product like this. However, when I asked if the replacement also had a 2 year warranty on it, she sadly said "no". ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Evidently I have had this 2013. As of today FEB 2016, THE BATTERY FINALLY STOPPED.I SEE ANOTHER PERSON RAN HIS FOR 8 YEARS. THIS IS ONLY 3 PLUS YEARS. I WILL LOOK INTO REPLACING THE BATTERY AND SEE IF THIS IS A BETTER SOLUTION THAN BUYING A NEW ONE, SINCE THEY HAVE UPDATED THE MODEL. I WILL RETURN AFTER INVESTIGATION.

Nice, Once You Get The Hang Of It...
I have used this waterpik for about a month now. Since I have not used a waterpik before, I had a bit of a learning curve to make it most effective, and keep water off the bathroom ceiling. I have the following observations: -It's going to be a bit messy. Get over it. It is worth the effort. -You will have about 30 seconds before the unit runs dry, but it refills very easily. This is the disadvantage of a smaller, portable unit that is easy to travel with. But if you do it right, 30 seconds is enough. -If you pik after you brush, you can see 'bits' of what was left over in your mouth, that brushing didn't get. Then you realize why you are using one of these in the first place. -Since cold water is painful, use warm water. Or, I just fill it when I'm done with it, and it will be room temp for the next time I use it. -This unit takes up very little counter space, or goes in a drawer nicely, as compared to the larger units. I like this, since counter space is a premium. Downside is that you have to recharge it, but after daily use for a month, it is still on its first charge. Best of both worlds. -Unit feels like quality, and performs well. -Different tips are provided, but I've only used the basic one for now. UPDATE: It has been almost a year with this unit, and I have had one problem. The unit wouldn't re-charge, and I discovered that the brass contacts where the cord plugs in, had developed a layer of corrosion. A sharp knife, and a few scrapes later, it was back in shape. Otherwise, it is working well, and my dentist is happy. UPDATE: It has been a little over a year, and the charging cord has failed. Therefore, the unit is kaput. However, I kept my box, and it says it has a 2-year warranty, so we'll see how Water Pic handles the return. I notice the new units in the stores have only a 1-year warranty. The cord is an ongoing concern, and I wish they would fix it.

I wonder about other reviews
I was ambivalent about buying this based on the reviews that I have read. I will say up front I do not have a Waterpik that sits on my counter top and plugs into the wall socket. I had one once and will never own one again. You pull on the hose and the unit travels across the counter. No I found that I like the cordless ones better. I have own the Waterpik WP-360W. It was OK but the battery pretty much had to be charged every week if used daily. It held just enough water to get the job done, it was hard to fill with water under the bathroom sink and I got about 3 years use from it until the unit stop charging due to corrosion where the charger plugs into the unit(This is because water spills on the connection). I then bought the Panasonic EW-1270AC. This was fine for travel but it had allot of problems like the water cap always falling off, water leaking out when you needed to store it in the suitcase(always had to keep it in a zip loc bag to prevent the remaining water that was always there even after emptying in sink), the tip always falling on the floor as the way it was to be stored should have held the tip better. Allot of germs on the floor. Plus the batteries were not rechargeable. So even after reading the reviews on the new Waterpik Cordless Dental Jet I bought one. For the life of me I could not understand why so many negative and mediocre reviews on this unit. But I figure it could not be that bad as it was the number one seller of cordless water jets. Here is a little contrast and compare on the reviews and my unit the WP-450 Ultra; 1. It is so loud it will wake anyone sleeping. Coffee grinder loud! ** Yes I guess it is loud as it is near you ear while using! But not that loud to me(i.e. I am a bit hard of hearing) My woman says it is not that loud and she has great hearing** 2. The reservoir is so small it runs out in 10 seconds. ** Maybe this user has a leak in his unit. I use mine for about 30 seconds until all food is removed and I still have half of the water left. And yes I am using the High pressure setting. ** 3. The tip is so mobile (rotates all over the place), you can't control it. ** Mine doesn't. Of course I have only had it a month. ** 4. It is poorly designed, too large, and difficult to hold (Can't imagine if you have small hands). ** I thought it was well ergonomically designed. I have nerve damage in my hand that makes it hard to hold on to things and get tops off of bottles but I had no problem holding the WP-450 Ultra. I think it is most excellent! ** 5. Poor battery life, long charge time, no charge indicator. After two uses I needed to recharge! (yes I let it charge up initially for 16 hours!). ** I have only charged my unit for 8 hours and have been using once a day for a month. I has not slacked off one bit in pumping the water out. ** 6. Expensive, Poor Value: Price is ~70% higher than the WP-360 ** Yes that is usually the case for older models. They usually do cost less than newer models as the cost of production is higher than years ago. It is actually 61.4 % higher in cost. The old unit uses Ni-Cad batteries as the new one uses more expensive L-Ion or NiMH batteries hence the higher cost and the L-Ion battery can hold a charge longer. ** 7. Poor Reservoir Capacity -only 120 ml or 20% less than the already-tiny WP-360's 150 ml ** I do not know how you can say that. I fill my units up to max and the new Water Jet holds twice the amount of water then the WP-360. Also I had to use a paper cup the fill up the old WP-360 ** 8. Terrible portability, large/inefficient size, ungainly ergonomics ** Well it is not touted as a travel water jet just a cordless one for home use. The Panasonic however is a true Travel/Portable unit as advertised. ** 9. Weak water stream. ** You've got to be kidding. It has two settings and is way better then the WP-360 and about the same pressure as the Panasonic model. Are you sure you have it charged up? ** 10. Very bad. Main problem is the tip won't stay fixed, it keeps rotating, so it sprays water everywhere but your teeth. ** I have not observed this problem. My tips stays right where it should. I will report back if this changes. ** 11. The reservoir is so small that it empties before you are ready to stop using it. It should be at least 2 1/2 times the size. ** I have to wonder what you are using this for. I use mine to remove the food particles from the gums and between teeth. When things stop coming out of the mouth am done. My dentist says I have the best gums of any patient he has in his practice and I only use this once a day before bed. ** It appears that the problem with the old WP-360 was the fact that the charger contacts on the front would get water inside no matter how careful one was and the metal from the charger was different from the metal that took the charger. What I observed on the WP-360 was dissimilar metal corrosion. What I observed on this new water jet was the charger contact is now enclosed in plastic and has been moved to the back of the unit where their is less chance of water getting in to the charger contacts. Allot of people keep going on about the old WP-360 in this post about the batteries not holding a charge. I think most people probably keep the unit charger plug in while not in use. This will lead to what is called a memory problem with Ni-Cad batteries. Ni-Cad batteries should never be keep on a continuous charge as that will lead to the memory problem mentioned. It is best to have Ni-Cads discharge completely and then recharge them. L-Ion / NiMH batteries do not suffer from this problem that I know of, but it is always better to only charge any battery after it loses its charge. Continuous charging on batteries will lead to shorten battery life. If I experience any problems with the Waterpic Water Jet WP-450 Ultra I will amend this review. I just can not understand all these bad negative reviews. If the unit was so bad why would it be the number one seller when I bought it? No I do not work for Waterpic but I have used their products for years and have not had that many problems which is why I guess they are still number one in Oral Irragtor sales. I hardily recommend the WP-450 Ultra if you are looking for a cordless (not Travel sized) waterjet. This is hands down better then the old but still selling WP-360. Updated 20 June 2016: Been working great for the last 7 years!!!!!!!!!!

Incredible and it really works!
When I say it really works, I have proof. I used it for about two weeks and could tell a difference in how my teeth felt. My teeth are generally very close together so I can only use Glide floss, but I also have pockets that collect food in the back plus my gums usually would bleed every time I flossed regardless of how gentle I was. What I wanted to find out was if my dental hygienist could see a difference. I have had the same person for over 20 years, so she knows my teeth and would be a good judge. After the two weeks of using it, I went to my 6-month checkup and didn't say anything at first. I could tell in the first few seconds that her scraping was minimal. She paused after about 15 seconds, looked at the chart, started scraping for about 10 more seconds, stopped and asked if I was using a different tooth brush or flossed more often. I asked why, and she said that there was very little plaque and my gums looked much healthier. I told her about this device, and she was amazed. I also just got back from vacation for a week and did not bring it with me, and I could tell that my teeth were not as clean. I'm a believer! I have had no problems with it holding a charge. I charge it once a month and it really doesn't need it even then. The one tip I can give is to use it in the shower since water does go everywhere. I simply fill it up when I am running the water before my shower and use it at the end after I'm done.

I don't think it works as well as the last cordless flosser.
The pressure on this flosser seems to be lacking in comparison to the old Waterpik cordless flosser I had. It is a little upsetting because I only had the last Waterpik for a short period of time before it would no longer hold a charge. I am sure this one will do the same because it looks like that wasn't taken care of in this product either. The charging contacts are out in the open so that they get wet and eventually one of the contacts will turn green and won't electrically connect with the plug. Also the water tank was redesigned and I think the old design was much easier to fill. It is really hard to fill this one fully. I wish Waterpik would get it together and make a charging system more like the Sonicare products, which are a closed charging system and they hold a charge much longer. I am sure I will be replacing this one within a year again! When they work though, they work. I feel they make a huge difference for flossing around my caps, especially the front of the caps where you can't really floss, it gets all the gunk out for a fresher mouth.

Response to front page review
I agree with the front page review that this is a great product, however I don't agree with everything he said (the arrows indicate my comments): ---------------------------------------------- 1. It is so loud it will wake anyone sleeping. Coffee grinder loud! ** Yes I guess it is loud as it is near you ear while using! But not that loud to me(i.e. I am a bit hard of hearing) My woman says it is not that loud and she has great hearing** -----> It's definitely not as loud as a standard plugged-in Waterpik. That's like a jackhammer. I was pleasantly surprised that this one isn't too loud yet still has the same pressure. 2. The reservoir is so small it runs out in 10 seconds. ** Maybe this user has a leak in his unit. I use mine for about 30 seconds until all food is removed and I still have half of the water left. And yes I am using the High pressure setting. ** -----> Maybe your unit is messed up and its high pressure setting is really a low pressure setting. On the high pressure setting, the water runs out after probably 15 seconds. I fill it up once for each quadrant of my mouth, which means I fill it up a total of 4 times. If you are doing this at the sink, this is no problem at all because filling it up takes about 5 seconds. If you want to use this in the shower, you're out of luck. You're not going to be able to fill it up with your shower stream. What you'd have to do is turn the shower knob so the water comes out of the tub faucet and fill it up there. That would be a huge inconvenience. 3. The tip is so mobile (rotates all over the place), you can't control it. ** Mine doesn't. Of course I have only had it a month. ** -----> I don't have this problem either. It might move slightly, you just have to move with it. 4. ** -----> If you have small hands you could just hold it higher up on the neck where its narrower. You don't have to hold it at the basin, although I do. Although it is definitely surprisingly bulky, it has to be (I couldn't tolerate it if I had to refill 8 times). 5. Poor battery life, long charge time, no charge indicator. After two uses I needed to recharge! (yes I let it charge up initially for 16 hours!). ** I have only charged my unit for 8 hours and have been using once a day for a month. I has not slacked off one bit in pumping the water out. ** -----> Your unit must have an insanely good battery. I haven't counted but it definitely needs to be recharged after a few days. Also, as he said, there is no indicator or light or anything to tell you whether it is fully charged which is odd. 6. ** -----> This device is extremely powerful at cleaning out the gums and could potentially save you thousands of dollars, or at least some extra pain, at the dentist. I don't know how it compares to other handheld waterpiks, but it's definitely so much nicer to use than the plug-in waterpiks which sound like jackhammers and take up so much space. If you hate wires, this is for you. 9. Weak water stream. ** You've got to be kidding. It has two settings and is way better then the WP-360 and about the same pressure as the Panasonic model. Are you sure you have it charged up? ** -----> The water stream is very powerful. A lot of people might find they need to stick to the gentle setting. You couldn't possibly need more pressure. ---------------------------------------------- So again, I highly recommend this product, but it is not as perfect as the front page review might have you believe. Some of the negative reviews do have valid points, but I am not so picky. It works well and is invaluable, as far as I'm concerned, because healthy gums mean a healthier body, and this certainly makes your gums healthier than flossing alone (I don't use this as a floss replacement -- I use this before I floss, and I find that it makes flossing much easier and rarely does anything come out on the floss).

Great product, even for "problem" teeth
I have never used a Water Pik of any kind before buying this product. I have crooked teeth and am constantly getting food caught that needs to be flossed out. I bought this "water flosser" with some skepticism -- I kind of doubted that it would be able to get the trapped food particles out from between my crooked teeth as well as string floss does. Immediately after using the Water Pik Waterflosser Cordless Plus for the first time, I used string floss to see if anything had been missed, and surprise -- nothing was missed! I now use the Water Pik exclusively, and save the string floss for when I'm going out for lunch or something like that. It is true that I have to refill the water reservoir once or twice during each use, but it's so easy to fill that I don't consider that a problem -- takes just a couple seconds. I am planning to get braces later this month, and I had been concerned about how to floss my teeth through the braces with string floss. Now, I'll just be able to use the Water Pik with its special orthodontic tip (which comes with this model, along with several other tips). I was also hoping this item would be small enough to take along for travel. Although it ideally could be a little smaller for that use, I will definitely find room to take it along when I travel -- obviously, if it were smaller, the water reservoir would have to be refilled more often, so there is that trade-off. One thing to note: The NiMH batter in this model cannot be replaced, so if it dies after the 2-year warranty expires, you will need to replace the entire unit. To extend the battery life for as long as possible, the user manual recommends keeping the unit plugged in for charging ALL the time EXCEPT during use. I will do this to extend the life of my battery, but if it still dies after 2 years, I will gladly buy another unit. At a price of about $40, it's well worth $20 per year.
