Writes as well as it looks. As good... hmmm.
Did paying this much for a pen bias my opinion of the experience. Maybe. But I really enjoy writing with this pen. The ink flows well, maybe even a bit on the wet side. The nib is smooth even on a low end legal pad at work. And my biggest fear, that the non design would cause me to slip down the pen and end up covered to both elbows in ink, were unfounded. I guess what I can say is, “If you fell in love with the look of this pen like I did, you will be getting a pen that is more than just a pretty face.”

Great piece of art.
Received the pen very quickly. It writes very smoothly with a medium nib. I like the embedded nib look. The only observation is that the slanted end of the barrel does not line up with the nib. I was hoping to twist the barrel a little tighter or thinking of filing the barrel thread end to get it to line up with the nib but after researching other sites, the barrel was not designed to line up with the nib and I don't want to mess up a work of art. That's just me being OCD. When posted the pen is still balanced although a little long.

Fantastic writing instrument
I absolutely love this pen. I have been using fountain pens for over 40 years, both new and antique. For me, this pen is the modern equivalent of the Parker 51, which is probably the finest fountain pen of all time. The Waterman Carene is perfectly balanced and writes beautifully even after not using it for a few days. If you want a great pen that works with both ink cartridges and a filler to be used with bottled ink, this is it.

Pen was used
Pen was clearly inked and used before. A little disappointing for what was meant to be new

Fountain Pen - The best looking, best priced smooth writing instrument
I am old school and still use a fountain pen. This pen is noteworthy because it provides a really cool style with a nib that writes either cursive or print style with no problem whatsoever. The medium nib services my hand the best and once the pen tunes to the hand, then it is much better than all of my Mont Blanc pens combined. This pen is my preference. Five stars all the way around.

It came defective
As you can see from the picture of the pen it came defective. The nib and the shaft are incorrectly aligned. When you pay close to $400 for a pen you expect that basic elements of craftsmanship will be adhered to. I have bought perhaps 60 waterman pens in my life this is by far the biggest disappointment.
