Art of Weaving Paperback – July 1, 1986

This was the fifth book I have purchased on weaving. I found that The Art of Weaving to cover everything you need to know, including history and a good coverage of the various kinds of weaving. I wish I would have purchased this one first.All of the photos, diagrams and illustrations were most helpful in making me understand exactly what I need to do.

A very good introduction to the art.

I have a vast collection of weaving books, new and old. Recently, I purchased a large lot of older weaving books, many out of print (a treasure trove for the weaver). The Art of Weaving was one of the books in the collection. I must say, this is an excellent book! The drafts are photocopies of graph paper, and are easier to see than many of today's drafts that are pretty fine print (for me).Although this book is mainly black and white print, there are TONS of pictures! Excellent close up pictures of the fabrics with the drafts written next to them. There are a dozen or so glossy pages with color pictures. Drafts for 4, 6, and 8-harness looms. Twills, Summer and Winter, Double-weave, Honeycomb, M & O, Lace and Finger controlled lace. There is even a chapter on rugs, designing, wall hangings, yarns, and an introduction chapter!This is an excellent book on weaving and should be part of every weavers library! I whole heartly recommend this book to every weaver, new and seasoned to add this book to your libray!Anke

This is a very nice reference book. Quite a lot of the patterns require 8shafts, which are are not useful for those of us with only 4.
