Advent Devotions for Busy Families

Better than what is was looking for. We have been reading a story a day and doing activities to go along with it. We have three boys 11, 9 and 6, but this could be geared up or down based on age. We are not coloring the ornaments that came with, but that would be great for younger children. We went and looked at Christmas lights after reading the lights story, made cookies after the cookie one, random acts of kindness after the St. Nick story, made Christmas cards after the Cards one, etc. Great for family time and celebrating the true meaning of the season.

Love this! Just arrived yesterday & I read through it this morning to see what I might need to have on hand for the activities. My kids are 8, 5, and 1 and this is perfect! A short, interesting reading for each day that weaves together the meaning of various Christmas traditions with a Bible verse and devotional focus. I love how the author helps young ones think through the meaning of Christmas by the symbols they will naturally see all around them this season & connect them to Jesus (i.e. Christmas lights = remember Jesus is the light of the world, Christmas cards = remember the Bible is God's card to us, etc.). Then there is a simple activity suggestion at the end of each reading along with a Christmas ornament to photocopy & color. Beautiful, simple, meaningful....my littles will LOVE this! I have tried a couple others & read about a bunch more and am so, so happy to have finally found a wonderful fit for our family to enjoy Christmas but keep the focus clearly on what matters most....it's all about Him!! Give this one a try this Christmas!

I had bought this intending to use with my son, who was about 7 at the time. The "devotions" are extremely basic. The activities are mostly coloring activities - which my kiddo hates. I didn't use it at all. I would say this would be best used for a homeschooling family with pre-k to kindergarten aged children as a break in the day during the Christmas season.

This was great. We used it daily as another book to go along with our Jesse tree/home school activities in December. Some of the sections I didn't incorporate, and I didn't use any of the enclosed ornaments you could color and copy, but instead had my kids create a scene on paper using each days lesson, and in the end they had a whole sheet that looked like a Christmas living room setting. I did angel wings with their hand prints, and they decorated an angel like that, and some items we did on another nativity sheet. Overall, it's a great book that tells where most of the traditions that we celebrate today come from, and overall that's what we used it for was a resource book.

I really like the simplicity of this. We are enjoying the writings for each day. I did not give this 5 stars because I spent a lot of time and wasted a lot of paper copying the ornaments for each day. A suggestion would be to put all the ornaments at the end of the book, maybe on cardstock, so we could just tear the pages out and color them much easier.

After years of using the same devotional for our family Jesse tree, we wanted something new and bought this book. We love the way this devotional provides great perspective on common Christmas traditions and helps our kids (ages 6 & 8) see Jesus in the world around them. We put the ornaments on our tree nightly and this book helped us keep our family focused on the reason for the season.

We have tried quite a few Advent devotionals for our family and have never been totally satisfied but we have finally found a WONDERFUL devotional! These devotions by Laurie Kehler are excellent! They teach and celebrate in a way that interests adults and children alike! It is very special! This is the second year that we have used it. We really love it!

This was a great book for our family. My 6 yr old loved it but my 4 yrs old had a hard time grasping all the topics. I think elementary age kids would do best. It was the right length to hold their attention and it helped refocus our holiday traditions back to Christ.

This looks great. Simple to use, but good content and lovely ideas to focus the whole family in the run up to Christmas. Can't wait to start it.
