I am very happy with my SWS Rosewood SG
Overall, I am very happy with my SWS Rosewood SG. The tone compares favorably to my other two acoustics, a Martin D-17m and a Taylor GA-5. At full price, it's a really good value for an all solid wood guitar that was made in North America. For the sale prices that have been offered through the holidays, mine was a steal. I have been playing for sixteen years, and this is actually the fourth Seagull that I have owned including a SWS Mahogany SG. The SWS Mahogany SG has been compared to this one in some of the other reviews. Both guitars sound great. They are just different. My Mahogany SG had the warmer tone that is typical of mahogany guitars. Because of the rosewood, this one has a brighter tone and actually projects better than my Martin. (My Seagull has the new 25.5 inch scale.) Also, I think that the slim neck profile on the rosewood model is more comfortable than the 1.8 inch wide necks found on most Seagulls. There are a couple of other details that I would like to share that you may not be able to pick up from the Seagull website. First of all, the nut has Tusq XL stenciled on the side. This means that the nut has built in lubrication which should help with tuning stability. Another detail that I did not expect was that the tuning keys are the gold colored ones with cream buttons that come with the Artist series guitars. The bonus here is that they have an 18:1 ratio. Once again, this will help with tuning. Finally, I think that anyone that is looking for a simple, well constructed guitar that sounds great will be very happy if they give this one a try.

stunning. absolutely worth the price.
I own the Maritime SWS in both mahogany and now rosewood. They sound and feel very different. Both are stunning for the price. They are both worth 2 to 3 times their price.

What a dumb mistake. This was the guitar I played daily
I had a budget of $1500 for a new acoustic. I didn't want electronics on it, just a straight, solid guitar. I had a Seagull Entourage that I ended up selling because I had about three too many guitars. What a dumb mistake. This was the guitar I played daily, but wanted to spend more time with my Takamine. I'll be honest, I didn't want another Seagull because I wanted a Taylor or Martin. After a two week period which I visited three stores, I went into a local shop to pick up a guitar that I was getting work on. While waiting I noticed they had a few Seagulls that just came in. I played about three of them and kept going back and forth. All sounded better than the Taylor's, Martin, Breedlove, etc.. In the $1000-1600 price range. I opted for this model, the SWS Rosewood. It's gorgeous and sounds amazing. The semi gloss is nice and has a great texture. I love that it's a solid spruce top and has solid back and sides. Cedar is nice but it does ding if you look at it funny. This is one guitar I plan on keeping forever. I'm not gonna lie, I still want a Martin or Taylor but it's going to be a higher end model in order to go up against my $800 Seagull.

Outstanding Guitar in this price range
Seagull and the entire Godin family line of guitars pack a lot of high end features into an affordable instrument. The SWS series can easily compete with instruments priced much higher. Construction is made with top quality woods and the build is to an equally high standard. The "D" size Maritime SWS comes in 2 flavors; an SG & HG finished solid Mahogany body and an SG Rosewood body. The tone is a bit different between the two woods but both have incredible sustain and with the integrated set neck and 9281 TUSQ compensated saddle, have excellent intonation. One thing to be aware of is that the Rosewood version has a slimmer nut (more traditional) at 1.72" and the Mahogany has a nut measuring 1.8", the same as the S6s. String spacing, while not measuring much different between the 2, does play differently. Just something to be aware of. Playing both types with fresh strings is the only to know which one is for you. At under a grand, you can't really go wrong with any of the SWS models.

Amazing resonance
The appreciation of a guitar is so amazingly subjective, but that said .. Was in a music store just fiddling around. Playing the Taylor's, Martins ..etc . And then I picked this one up. Never heard of Seagull, the name sounded like some off brand that cheap people settle for. I was simply amazed. The action, the tone, the sleek design, the light body. I had to double check the price because it sounded every bit as good as the Taylor I had been playing which was prices 50% higher. Since that time , about 2 years ago, I have learned about Seagull. Check out the acoustic guitar forums, this is NOT an " off brand" but rather well respected luthiers. Kudos.
