Cycle Style

Worth Looking At
I bought this book as personal encouragement to continue my own style of dress while riding a bike. Many of the cyclists I see, have what would be called 'cycling clothes' on -- instead of just plain every-day clothing. Personal style gets lost in cookie-cutter clothing -- particularly the sort of neoprene short, loud jersey, and of course the safety helmut that many cyclists state-side wear. This book portrays the bicyclists as people who use the bike as a means to an end, and don't compromise personal style in the process.Very interesting - - very refreshing. Thoroughly enjoyed all the pictures.

Contemporary Mod portraits
This book has no text. It is a collection of pictures of contemporary people posing outdoors with their bicycles. These are portraits instead of random photographs. All the bicycles are spottlessly clean. A number of the subjects are extremely well dressed and wearing wool. A few of them are wearing armbands that identify the "Tweed Run", an annual ride in London. While a number of men have waxed moustaches and vintage clothes there is no dress code and the posed nature of the portraits gives the subjects the appearance of dressing for a Vivienne Westwood parade documenting the diversity of what people think it means to "dress up" and look sharp in the year 2012. It is appropriate to anyone interested in society, fashion or bicycles. As a book of picture portrait photographs this book compliments the book- Bicycles: Vintage People on Photo Postcards (The Bodleian Library - Photo Postcards from the Tom Phillips Archive). As a set you can see the change in how people want to be seen and how riding a bicycle has always been both a personal and social statement as well as a means of transportation. The pictures are extremely engaging and one cannot help but see oneself.

Velo-couture
I spotted this book as a pre-order and have to admit that I couldn't resist the temptation, with my every increasing interests in both cycling and cycling 'styles' and culture. This book very much focuses in on, and around, the 'London' cycle style, with the mix of fashions and functions; but all beautifully photographed and captured in this book.I'm finding myself happily flicking through the pages and soaking up all the little details. Perhaps my only criticism could be that some subjects are repeated and the soft binding may not last the test of time. However, these are only very minor things against the vibrancy of the book and the images. It certainly frames a small slice of modern cycle styles - It's fab!

Great stylistic book
I bought this book as I'm a cyclist and was interested in the fashion cycle culture. The book showcases one of the cycle cultures and so is not comprehensive of cycle fashion. it does however capture that style excellently. Great inspiration both in the bike photography and the people. If you're a non-lycra cyclist and a bit of a stylist like me, you'll gain a smile from this book.I love the references at the back of each picture and bike model. My only gripe is, I would have loved to see what those who were photographed would wear when the weather is bad! I'm sure there's style in all the weathers. A sequel perhaps?

A Gift......
This was purchased for my Son as he had requested this for his Birthday.(32nd!!) I opened it and it was not what I had expected, not knowing anything about this book at all. I had expected to see different bicycles, but on the contrary it is all about the different clothing styles that people wear whilst on their bikes. My Son is a keen cyclist so it was of great interest to him, and still is.My Son was every pleased with this book and enjoyed comparing the different clothing from cyclist to cyclist.Lovely photographs all the same and on the whole I think a very well put together book......So if my Son is happy then I am too!!Three stars from me but obviously it would be four had my Son been writing this review.

Great book but quite niche!
As a photographer and keen cyclist (road, urban and moutain) and lover of fashion I had to get this book after seeing it originally in the book shop at the Barbican. There are some great bikes and quirky outfits and I really like the style of the book overall.Howver, first impressions are of cool, young hip irban cyclists posing with their bikes. But once you get further through the book you start seeing the same bikes over again. A shame, as I think the true dynamic of this book should have been exactly that, cool young city slickers and hipsters with their cool custom rides rather than (I suspect) mostly models on oethr peoples bikes.Still an enjoyable book thats sits either on my library shelf or coffee table.

Beauty on two wheels
My wife spotted this book on a table in a café downtown Stockholm, Sweden. She hastily flicked through the pages and wrote me a text message. A lover of good photography and a keen bicyclist, I instantly knew I had to get this book. I've seen a lot of good pictures, but the ones captured in this book are simply Amazing! They're just something else. The book contains no text, just pictures, but the author says it all with them. The pictures make up for a tremendous mix of good style, looks, clothes, fantastic bikes and just beautiful human beings. No matter if you love classic garment or just fascinating bicycles of great variation, it gives you the best of both worlds. This IS what bicycling with style is all about. The definitive mix and blend, all through the lens of a camera in the hands of a very very skilled photographer.Needless to say, I love the book.

Beautifully Photographed
This book contains pictures of cyclists in colourful garb with their beautiful bicycles: it is compiled by a professional photographer. The photos are taken on the streets of London in interesting locations and communicate something of the character of the cyclists. It's candy for the eyes and will make you smile.
