Wow! This little instrumemt packs a big, beautiful voice! First, this instrument is beautiful! The spalted maple is gorgeous with the black hardware and Thunderblack strings!Second, the features are great! Electric-acoustic, built-in tuner, the battery compartment is near the jack and uses a pair of 2032 coin batteries.The acoustic tone is much bigger than one might expect! I was amazed by the sound! I do not have a bass amp to plug it in to hear the pickups, but with the quality of the rest of the instrument, I'm sure it sounds awesome!The Thunderblack plastic/rubber strings felt a little different and there is a bit of a "rolling" feel when fretting, but it's easy to get used to. Plus, with the strings being fatter, they don't hurt the fingers as easiky, which would be great for student/novice play who hasn't yet built up those callouses.I HIGHLY recommend this Kala U-bass for easy portability, awesome sound, easy to learn, great features, and it's great for recording as well!

I've toyed with buying a U-bass for several years now, and finally did. This instrument is indeed beautiful, and the sound it generates is immense and infinitely adjustable. The "Pahoehoe" black rubbery strings, along with the small scale, make more complex bass lines difficult to play, and that's both a challenge and a chance to adapt my style to a different set of demands. The price of this instrument should make it much easier to enter the bass-owning world - whether for guitarists who might want a bass, or potentially for new players. The size is extremely portable and easy to store.

I think mine was taken from my porch, which is a shame.But I contacted the seller and they refunded my purchase, which is really cool.I've owned a similar model u bass and they are a lot of fun to play.I love the compact/travel friendly size and included bag.The inbuilt tuner and eq are great and easy to use.It has a 1/4" output, so you can plug in to whatever device you care to.For the money, this is a nice, unique instrument. The built, fit and finish are all above what I would expect.I'm not a professional bass player by any means, I'm a lightly seasoned beginner but I won't lie. I enjoy these instruments.

Got the spalted maple model for my wife for Christmas. I am impressed with the construction fit & finish. It truly is beautiful. For the price, I didn't expect it to quite so nice. Neck is straight, the frets are dressed really well and the intonation is spot-on. The tuner and electronics work perfectly. She loves it. Great value!

I received my U BASS and its great. Love the sound and overall, a beautiful instrument. Came with everything promised. The only issue i have is, the spalted maple instrument I saw was not what I received. It is simply a stock photo of the instrument. I did receive a spalted maple U-Bass except the patterns of the spalting were not that of the instrument pictured that I fell in love with.When I have ordered instruments from other online stores, ZZ sounds and Sweetwater I have received that same instrument and serial number.I am not going to return the instrument, but I was disappointed that the pattern I seen was not the one I got. I would recommend that the seller take individual images of each specific instrument and serial number for sale and list these individually.

Horrible trying to tune instrument! Thick rubber string are comfortable but it’s like trying to tune a rubber band

Love the U-Bass since hey came out. This Spalted Maple U-Bass looks as great as it is fun to play. And the sound coming out of my Bass Amp reminds me of the sound of a stand up bass ( double bass )… pleased as punch !!!!!!

This would be a beautiful instrument that I would recommend to anyone, if not for the apparently common issue of the two lower-tone string being intermittent when amplified!It is no longer under warranty (I've had it for six weeks)!I was offered some 'solutions' from Kala support, but none of them helped!DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS - BUY THE OSCAR-SCHMIDT BASS UKE
