TOFU Power Station (Maru) - Traveller Bundle

The concept matches perfectly what I was after: - Designed for international travel. - Low-profile plug that fits into awkwardly placed outlets (behind hotel beds etc.). - Cable to bring the adapter onto the nightstand for convenience (and so other cables can be short).The execution is mediocre: - Compared to the quality feel of Apple adapters, the Maru feels hollow and plasticky. - The Traveller's duckheads do not feel super sturdy either (best seen comparing Tofu's and Apple's US duckheads which are both foldable) - There's a coil whine whenever any of the USB-A/C ports is used.Technically, it feels a bit outdated: - 2 USB-A + 2 USB-C (would ideally be 3C1A or even USB-C only) - 45W max output (difficult to charge a laptop, even if using only 1 port) - The Traveller's light plug is Micro USB :scream:Still giving it 4 stars due to the unique concept. Hope they release an updated one.

I love the idea of this unit and the form factor. Unfortunately both USB-C ports have given me trouble. The Mobile phone USB C port never worked and the Laptop port quit working after a couple months of light use. Thankfully the rest of the unit still works as a power cord extension, but these two useless USB-C ports are a real let down.

I originally heard about the TOFU Maru on a forum for Digital Nomads where it received rave reviews from professionals who live out of a carry-on suitcase and depend on their computer for their livelihood. I've been using mine for about a month and it has been fantastic. If I wind up having issues I will come back and edit this review.

I just got my item delivered and USB ports do not work. The shipping back to US from EU will cost quite a bit so not even sure if it is worth it to send it back. Just save yourself the headache and buy another product!

I really loved the design, functionality and concept of this product. It's smart and useful. However, after owning this for a few weeks and using it a couple of times for a few HOURS one of the USB-C ports (the low wattage "mobile" one) stopped working. I purchased this directly from the manufacturer and reached out for support. Hopefully, the exchange and return process won't be as difficult as the previous reviewer's experience.

I purchased mine as part of the crowdfunding campaign and have now been using this to charge all my components for about 2 years straight. When I purchased I was preparing to travel continuously and didn't want to carry a bunch of chargers, so when I saw this I thought it was definitely worth a try. Once I received it I started using it for everything to test it out immediately. I have a Dell XPS 13 that only came with a 45w charger and all my other devices are pretty basic (iPhone, iPad, battery chargers for multiple cameras, etc.) and it's been handling everything just fine. Normal use for me is my laptop and iPhone with one other device like my iPad or misc camera batteries. Sometimes I'll add 1 or 2 devices to this, but I've never used all the ports.The built-in extension cord has been very nice and being able to charge my laptop, iPad, iPhone, and other devices/batteries all at the same time only needing this and cables is incredible! This saves so much space, and has you covered with the various plug configurations!The only reason I give this 4.5 stars instead of 5 is the wattage and it does get a little warm. Things have changed since this released, it was pretty top of the line at the time, and the warmth has never been an actual issue though. None the less I've reached out to the manufacturer to see about them updating with new tech to get higher watts and they sounded like they will look into it, and I really hope they do since I'd like to upgrade to a larger laptop that this would not charge straight from the USB-c port. I could just use one of the plugs, but that kind of defeats the purpose for me.I've used this to charge 2 laptops (my dell XPS13 and a 13" MacBook Pro; 1 with the USB-c and the other via an outlet) and 2 mobile phones without a problem. As I mentioned it will get a little warm but has never popped the internal fuse or shown any signs there were problems.I saw people leaving negative comments, but I've been so happy with my experience I felt it would be good to let people know about it. Just know if you want to use this to plug your laptop directly to the USB-c verify your requirements, if it meets your needs I think you'll be very happy with it. If it doesn't, reach out to the manufacturer so they know there is interest in a higher watt version.

It’s a great idea. Great design. It’s a bit weak on the manufacture front I thought. But I loved it enough in the first days I bought another one for my partner. No muscular one she, but off to NZ she went, and used it a few times and on about the 5th use it snapped off. The prong on the NZ plug adapter sheared off right where the plastic ends and metal protrudes. I will post a photo if I can, but Amazon not giving me the option. So I wrote to ZenTofu. And they said they cover the main item not the plugs and would change me shipping and replacement. But if I ordered something with the 10% off coupon they sent, they would send it as a ride along. Really?! Stand by your manufacture? It’s a dangerous item. Then I posted on their F B so they offered again to help, but the same thing, pay shipping. I have countered offering to ship them the broken one for free if they replace for free when they get it. So...good idea, maybe a one off defect but my USA/NZ plug already had me worried. And if they don’t stand by what they sell, well, goodbye to ever buying anything from them.Updated June 2020: They did finally relent and mail me a new part at no cost. Took a lot of struggle. Hope they remain more dedicated to quality follow up. The new one works but still feels fragile. I will be super careful with it. Other than that this is a great item.
