The perfect tool to help inspire compassion in our world’s youth.” —Jane Goodall, world-renowned primatologist A hilarious picture book that poses the eternal question: To squish or not to squish? With a meaningful message about the importance of caring for creatures big and small, this is a perfect book for Earth Day and year round. What would you do if the ant you were about to step on looked up and started talking? Would you stop and listen? That’s what happens in this funny, thought-provoking book. First composed as a song by a father-daughter team, this suprising conversation between a tiny ant and a little girl is sure to inspire discussions about caring, kindness, and respect for both animals and humans. Review: Teaches empathy to students - Love this book! My preschool students wanted an ant farm, and this book helped teach them about living things and treating them carefully. The page where the ant is human sized and the boy is the size of the ant was really powerful to the kids and they reference it often! Thanks for a great introduction to caring for living things and empathy Review: Great for sharing Point of View and Empathy - Hey, Little Ant is a wonderful book for sparking deep conversations with kids about point of view and empathy. I bought it for my 8-year-old granddaughter, and she reads it again and again. The story is engaging, and the illustrations cleverly show perspective, literally and figuratively, making it a great tool for teaching children to see things from someone else’s eyes. Whether you're a teacher, parent, or grandparent, this book is a gem to have on the shelf. Highly recommend!

Great introduction to opinion writing!
I was looking for an interesting short mentor text to introduce opinion writing as well as gain a topic student would be passionate about. This book gave me everything I needed!! Not only did the kids love it, it ended with a fabulous question posed to the audience. Within the books there are also a few supporting details for students to use to back up their opinions so this is great for an writing lesson! If you’re adventurous there much you can do for en ELA lesson as well!

Excellent for teaching several skills!
I used this book to teach perspective to my second graders. Since the story is open-ended, I then had my students write an ending for the story. This book is wonderful and should be in every K-3 classroom!

A lovely book that also teaches that insects might have feelings too!
This is a lovely story. We bought it to help to teach our 3 year old daughter that every creature might have feelings and a family. It had the desired effect and inspires thought in a friendly way rather than making them question death! In hard cover and beautifully illustrated.
