Ghoulishly good time!
We received this yesterday and my 4 year old and 2 year old LOVE it. My 4 year old has made me read it a million times already. Every time he looks at it he finds something new in the drawings, "look at the 3 eyed spider Mommy!" This book is clever and fun, I'm sure it will be a fixture way past Halloween.

A favorite book in our house, all year round
We adore this book! My daughter picked it out from the bargain bin at Barnes and Noble when she was little, and she's just turned 14. She loved it so much that it was one of the few books she said we had to find when her little brother was on the way, a decade later. We tracked it down again and without even trying, my son has loved this book from the beginning. We give each "spooky buddy" a different voice, which makes my son laugh, and made my daughter laugh before him.The review about not being happy that the narrator assumes everyone has ridden on the bus seems kind of silly. My son has never ridden on a bus, but certainly knows what a bus is and gets the overall concept of a school bus. Since he was about 1, every time he sees a bus, he exclaims, "Bus!", probably in part to this book. He is just over 2 years old now. It's a sweet, rhyming story about a grade-school boy who, on Halloween day, accidentally gets on the "ghoul bus" instead of his regular school bus. At first he is terrified because he is surrounded by monsters, witches, and goblins. Soon enough, he realizes they're a fun-loving bunch who are finally able to be "seen" and be themselves rather than hiding, knowing most will just assume they're wearing costumes. He befriends everyone on the bus and it's not until he reaches "ghoul" (monster school) that the bus driver catches on he's human, and sadly for the boy, takes him back to his actual school. It's an adorable story that doesn't feel at all scary in our family, but gives a fun, Halloween vibe. We enjoy this story year-round, but especially love it in the fall. I think this year, since my son a little older, we'll probably decorate some Halloween cookies surrounding this book, to bring it a little more to life.

Generalises audience but cute
Primarily- this was a bit anxietizing for a kiddo that doesn't scare easy. 5-year-old that's seen bits of zombie movies and the old-school kids halloween movies. The tempo and how many pages back-to-back were an issue of something we had to skip through rather than enjoy. Of course about normal kid turning it around and having a fun time. So ends well. Would be a better fit for kids who really WANT to be scared. . I didn't like that it starts out assuming every reader has rode on a school bus (I didn't for the first several years of school...). Not a big deal, should have figured it was geared-to the typical situation of a kid who would be interested in school buses and in a typical school, not really relatable for kiddos that are in charter/home-school. She liked several parts though and I thought it WAS well written and with cute drawings.
