The best guidebooks around
As long as you accept that some things change after publication (eg. prices - especially in Turkey at the time of writing) there is no problem with using Lonely Planet's guides. This one, as ever, helped me navigate around Istanbul and the rest of Turkey with ease.

Sadly out of date
Sadly much of this guide is now out of date, but even before the events of early February I was questioning how recent the research was. I have a much earlier edition of this guide which indicates limited change. The most disappointing feature were the maps, some good some poor, but the largest national map is printed on poor quality paper with a lot of ink bleed. Having said that it is still probably the best guide for the more adventurous traveler.

Love Turkey.
Why didn't the writer mention the Effel Tower.

Great quality, but prices are off
As usual, Lonely Planet delivers quality guides - a lot of insights to plan your trip and good recommendation. 3 stars because of the prices - they're all off, completely! Probably driven by inflation, the real prices (even for official landmarks) are at least 2/3 times higher than the one indicated on this guide.

New edition, but still massively out of date. Should claim a refund really
Useful in parts as Lonely Planet Guides always are, but despite claims on the cover to be updated and assertions that they have revisited all places after Covid to ensure they are still open, we found that many recommended hotels and restaurants were defunct. Prices were hugely out of date too, and this is before the recent round of inflation and currency depreciation. TAKE RECOMMENDATIONS WITH A BIG PINCH OF SALT. The newer style format is not as easy to use or informative as it always has been, and it looks like LP is moving away from the format that has made it the go to guide for the last 40 years .

Worst Travel guide I have used so far
I normally use Lonely Planet Travel guides to plan my holidays. They seem consistently reliable in their recommendations. However, they got it wrong in this one. Half of the recommendations were a big miss. Hostel in Istanbul was a party hostel (completely missed this very important detail), didn't mention that only two pools in Pamukkale have actually water in them. I think next time I will try a different guide.

This is one of the best to get you ready for the trip.
Quite heavy to travel with you especially if you do not wantro see all Turkey but this book is overall well-written and received five star rating from me. Well done.

I Haven't Done This Trip Yet, but...
Maybe it isn't entirely appropriate to rate a travel book BEFORE we do the trip, since we have no real way to confirm that the information in it is accurate!Still, I CAN comment on the layout and detail, and I am impressed with both.We have used Lonely Planet guidebooks many times in the past and have found them to be helpful. This one appears to be very comparable in terms of the type of information it provides.Beyond that, I would be extrapolating too much, but I hope and expect it will prove to be worth buying.

Poor quality
The pages were of poor quality and the book was delivered with some physical damage. Since it is an expensive book, better quality is expected
