The Story of Jane Goodall: An Inspiring Biography for Young Readers (The Story of Biographies)

My 7 year old granddaughter loved this book.

It was clearly written and has a glossary, making it easy to understand. The timelines and periodic summaries/clarifications and the way actions were put in context/connected to themes were excellent. It was full of high interest scaffolds. The thinking questions and the biographies of the author and illustrator gave readers more opportunities for learning and inspiration.

If your child loves animals, this is a perfect book.

This book is both informative and fun to read. The pictures are lovely and the facts draw you in to the story of her life. She was an incredible woman of history! Great for a child’s book report!

Builds reading skills

I am disappointed that this book, though colorfully put together and nicely organized, is more a compendium of facts than being a story for kids. I was hoping to have more experiential information, like, what was it like, to sit watching apes? What did Jane hope to learn and how did she feel when apes interacted with her? I purchased the book for a youngster who is 6 years old, and interested in animals and jungles, but not much interested in a big encyclopedia of gathered information including dates and time lines and listed locations. I can imagine most kid flipping through this book, and returning it to its shelf, unless they're tasked with doing a report that requires timelines and accurate information about places to which Jane traveled. As I mentioned the book is colorful, and it does contain a lot of information about Jane's amazing life.

I put moderate different but I would give it a true easy/ moderate. Words like Jubilee aren't common in vocabulary for my child.

I sent my 9 yr old niece 3 books for her birthday and she liked this one the best. She admires Jane Goodall because she's an animal lover liker her.

Both books were presents for my granddaughters. Both were quite badly damaged. Very disappointed. Can’t give these as gifts now.

I learned she has truly loved chimpanzees. I was moved her power to inspire others.

The book was very informative and interesting and fun to learn about chimps!!!! My son is 8 and really enjoyed it.
