Good blender for the price.
I was not expecting miracles for a blender in this price range. It does a very good job as long as there is enough liquid. Make sure you use at least 8oz (one cup) when blending things. I have made a few smoothies, and even some sorbet ( had to freeze it a bit more before eating due to using lots of liquid) The pitcher is nice heavy glass. The buttons ARE easy to wipe. the top feels a bit flimsy, but it stays on well. The retractable cord is a pain, you just sortof stuff it into a cavity inside, but I don't move my blender around. I just got the cord to the right length and left it there. It looks VERY cute on my counter.

no green smoothies
I purchased this smoothie maker when my high priced one died after a year. I was impressed with the number of positive review on its ability to maked green smoothies. I just received it and made one immediately. Spinach grapes, cucumber kale, tomato and juice and NO ice. Even after mixing several times all ingrediants were the size of dried parsley. It seems to work fine, is not very noisy and in all other ways seems to work fine. In the past week I have been using a borrowd blender that is over 25 yrs old and it blended my veggies better than this one. I recommend using this for soft fruit smooothies and milk shakes, but not for veggies.

=(
It seriously wont blend anything. Not even strong enough to blend a chopped apple and spinach. Works so poorly that I almost questioned if I had received a defective item. One of my most disappointing purchases ever =(

Very satisfied.
After 5 days of smoothies as a novice green smoothie maker using a blender, am hooked. Many years ago tried a juicer, but found the pulp waste as just that, very wasteful. Never tried a blender. This product does the job for me, and in fact am very pleased with the results. Clean-up is absolutely a snap; the spout tends to drip a bit when pouring, but I prefer having a glass jar. Also the warnings in the accompanying owner's manual about the blade sharpness seemed unwarranted; I used a knife sharpening rod to put an edge on the blades. My homework came up with some tips on blending and smoothies: (1) chew your smoothies as it stimulates the salivary glands and improves the digestion; so the fact my smoothies are a slurry with bits of the leafy ingredients (99% not larger than parsley flakes) are O.K. by me. (2) Add your liquid first (2-3 cups), then leafy items, and blend; then harder items diced (I dice everything) into 1" chunks or less. (3) not necessary to blend for more than 10 seconds after adding a class of ingredients (i.e. leafy, soft, hard); thus I don't get much of that electric motor smell many reviewers of blenders in general complain about. Recommended.

Not so good for smoothies that contain ice
This blender is okay for blending fruit, vegetables etc but if you are interested in making smoothies with ice this isn't the best choice. It does not smoothly blend the ice into the mixture, but mainly just cuts it in bulky pieces. If you are interested in using it for fruits and vegetables it works great!

The Oster Had to Go
My 40+ year-old warhorse Oster blender was looking peaked - white turning grey; caked around the raised buttons - and I was ready to buy a replacement blender. But tell me, how did all those years go by?Using Amazon reviews, I came upon this Hamilton Beach 53202 Wave Maker 2 Speed Blender, Red with glass jar. Even though it is Made in China, it is a fine product, beautifully designed and so easy to clean. Try a cup each of chopped kale, chopped cucumber, white/green grapes, a chopped Granny Smith apple and a little water - what a surprisingly wonderful thick smoothness.

Definitely worth the $40 price.
I make smoothies every day. This one has power to spare, no matter what order you put the ingredients in. Note that the size of the jar is slightly smaller than others, so make sure it will hold the volume you're making. Also, the jar is glass, not plastic so it's definitely heavier, but also definitely quieter than plastic. One issue drives me crazy but I'm getting over it. The pouring spout on the jar is tiny. Half the size of your thumb print, so the smoothie can run over the rest of the lip of the jar if you're not careful, causing some dripping down the outside of the jar. I hate mess. You can wipe it with a paper towel before it gets to the bottom and into the collar, but you have to be quick about it. Otherwise it's perfect for the use.
