iKich Glass Electric Kettle 1.7L Eco Cordless Glass Kettle Fast Boiling Quiet BPA Free Water Boiler Tea Kettle with LED Indicator, Auto Shut Off and Boil-Dry Protection, 2200W

I chose this kettle because my old one was so noisy that we could not hear our TV when the kettle was working. It boils quickly, switches itself off when it has boiled, and I think it will be easy to clean. (I live in a very hard water area so this is important.) The kettle looks good too. I can easily see if is has any limescale and the lid opens far enough for me to get my hand inside the kettle if I need to to get any stubborn traces off.

Glass kettles are better (I am told) in hard water areas. We bought the Ikich as it looked good and we hoped easy to clean with periodic descaling. After a month the hinged lid fell off when I pressed the 'open' button.I contacted Ikich for their comments and to be fair they quickly emailed back (from China) apologising and arranged for a replacement kettle to be delivered and it arrived a couple of days later.I think the problem lies when the kettle lid is opened for filling. The lid does not open fully (only 45 degrees approx not 90) so our water tap could not be positioned directly over the kettle. The Tap tends to push on to the lid perhaps weakening the plastic mechanism which we were unaware of. The lid hinge is not a great design which is a shame as it looks great but I cannot fault the Ikich customer support team.

In addition to it not being quiet, as advertised, it also has another issue. When you open the lid to poor water the lid only opens to about 45 degrees making it hard to pour water from the tap

The hinge that holds the lid on broke after four and a half months, the lid now jumps off when you press the button and will only rest on!Apart from that the kettle works well, the part that broke is 2mm thick plastic bye 6mm.

The kettle's appearance is good, transparent and well-designed. This enables you to see when it is coming to the boil. It does this quickly, and unlike so many others, it pours well. It cuts out at the right time. In short, it passes on every test.

Kettle seemed good quality for the price, until the lid mechanism came off, which under investigation seems really flimsy. Currently arranging a return.
