Great little speaker!
I bought this unit a few days ago after researching multiple brands, and it has exceeded my expectations. I'm no audiophile, I just know what I like, but some of these reviews completely baffle me. You're looking at a small, portable budget speaker, but you're expecting professional grade sound quality? I feel you're going to be disappointed consistently when you expect Rolls-Royce quality at Ford prices. I bought this mainly as a loudspeaker for my tablet when I'm watching movies, and in that aspect alone this is a keeper. For music, there's no competition. I have a rather large house, and this little speaker easily fills a room with sound. It will come in handy outside when I'm hosting pool parties for the kids and adults. As far as the unit itself, it feels substantial. It weighs roughly 2 lbs (~900grams), and measures 8" L x 2.5 x 2.5 (20.5cm x 6.5 x 6.5). The body is all aluminum, and the grills also appear to be aluminum. They exhibited no flex when I pressed on them firmly. The buttons are large and "clicky" with a nice tactile response to them. The generous rubber pad on the bottom not only keeps the jam from vibrating itself around, but acts as a buffer to keep the surface it's on from vibrating and buzzing annoyingly. The sound quality is where this little guy really shines. It has nice, deep, punchy base (you can feel it up close), crisp and clean treble, and I've personally not noticed any kind of hiss or artifacting. The sound just seems full and rich. Using my phone as a decibel meter, I played the same one minute song clip through the speaker, then through my tablet. I was able to achieve and average of 76 dB and a high of 83db at a distance of 6 inches (15.5 cm) through the Jam Heavy Metal. Comparing that to my tablet's built-in speakers, I achieved 67 dB average, and a peak of 78 dB. At a distance of 3.2 feet (1 meter), the Jam achieved 79 dB max and an average of 71 dB. The tablet speakers at the same distance measured only 67 dB max and an average of 55. As far as those claiming the Jam isn't loud enough to fill a car, just for grins I decided to measure my car stereo. At max. volume through bluetooth, and using the same 1 minute song clip, my car stereo achieved an average of 77 dB and a peak of 84 dB. If the Jam isn't loud enough to fill your car, you either need a mechanic or an audiologist--- not a louder speaker. My vehicle's stereo would be considered in the upper-mid range, possibly lower-top range. It is the Infiniti Studio on Wheels by Bose, so it's not exactly a weak system. The Jam matched it nearly identically. One small thing that really pleased me is that there is no discernible latency or lag when watching movies using the speaker as the audio source. Some lesser quality or smaller speakers with outdated parts will lag behind a second or more, not so with the Jam. I was nervous about that, but again, the Jam impresses.Overall, I love this thing and I'm hoping to get many years of enjoyment out of it. I haven't managed to run the battery down yet, so I don't know what kind of battery life to expect, but I've had it running for 4+ hours and it was still going strong.I will update this review in a few weeks if I find the battery life, or if anything changes. In the meantime, I'm very satisfied and would definitely buy this little guy again.

Excellent value BT speaker with well balanced sound and thundering bass reproduction
Summary: Excellent, balanced sound reproduction, thundering bass, fantastic value for less than $50. Best bluetooth speaker I heard in the sub $100 category.I was seeking a below $100 Bluetooth speaker, and sound quality was my main criteria. Waterproofing, color, and form factor were not important (though I would have loved a retro form factor like the Tewell if only it's sound was as nice as the Jam heavy metal). I tried out quite a few speakers, ultimately choosing the Jam heavy metal over the Oontz Angle 3 ultra. Here's why I rate the Jam 5 starts:Sound quality: 5 stars. Exceptional for its price point! The sound envelope is very balanced. I can hear vocals, lows, mids, highs equally well. The Bass is phenomenal. It's just not loud bass, but the kind of compact but powerful bass that really grooves you. All kinds of bass heavy instruments (pedal drum, tabla, bass guitar, double bass) sounded very good. Even more so considering the size and price point of this speaker. Compared to the Jam, the Oontz generally sounded a tiny bit sharper/clearer but at the expense of the vocals drowning out the other elements a bit (compared to the Jam). And the bass is not as good as on the Jam. Just listen to Gotan Project (try Santa Maria) on the Jam and you'll know what I mean. So while the Oontz did sound pretty good for a $40 speaker, the Jam always sounded better and more refined in a blind test. One tiny negative- there is a hint of static hiss when nothing is playing, but feels like this goes away when a track starts.Battery: 3.5 stars. Is advertised as 8hr on a full charge. I get closer to 5-6 hours. This was a less critical factor for me since I intend to keep it plugged in. It might be closer to the 8h mark with aux connection and lower volume. If on the go long batttery life is important, this might not be the right speaker for you.Build and looks: 4 stars. Solid, heavy, good quality build. It feels like it means business. Front grill actually looks pretty nice. Nice rubberized base to prevent sliding off a surface.Bluetooth connection: 4 stars. No problems at all in connecting. But the sound prompts at ON/OFF/Connected are really loud and the loudness can't be changed. You can toggle through a few languages for the prompt and ultimately replace it with beep prompts which are a little quieter. But would still have preferred if these were more subdued.Overall I'm extremely satisfied with this especially since it only costs $40. If you are looking for a less expensive Bluetooth speaker but want fantastic sound I would urge you to give this a listen. Thank you Jam for making a high quality affordable product.

Jam HX-P920 Heavy Metal BT Speaker
Solid build quality and weight. Due to the amount of bass this thing pumps out, I can see why it's heavy like a brick. I'm pleased by the mids, highs and lows this product can produce. I haven't tested the calling or microphone functionality yet, but will try to do that and update my review soon. A minor drawback would be with the max volume power on notification \ voice. Almost have to smother it under a pillow while powering on this speaker, so that I don't almost get a heart attack. There is also a noticeable static that emits from the speaker when the volume level is on very low, but that part doesn't bother me as much. I think the price should be $50, due to those 2 drawbacks, 8 hour battery life and the lack of a USB charging bank to charge other USB devices.
