Despite its size this little pocket book is packed with detailed drawings and information.Several features make this guide remarkable.First and foremost is that the publisher has used truly waterproof pages and ink. This is an all-weather, sunshine or torrential rain, field guide that relies on minimal text and maximum detailed illustrations. Animals are identified by image and tracks and strides are identified by shape and size (pictured).Second, this guide has an easy to use, 13 tab, quick reference index at the outside edge of its pages. To locate a duck, one flips to the bird tab then locates the page with images of ducks. It could not be easier and has been hugely helpful to me with wildlife photography. Also of note, by using edge tabs the guide can be navigated quickly whether using gloved or bare hands.Third, the spiral binding allows the pocket guide to be draped backwards across the leg or folded fully back on itself without compromising the spine integrity. This may seem a small point but is one of my requirements for a field guide that I can actually use in the field.Fourth, it has a checklist on the inside cover (pictured) that allows a person to keep track of their progress. It's a fun way to help children work towards animal tracking goals while getting some exercise in the outdoors.Last, it's exactly as advertised and is the perfect size to fit in a pocket.The Ron Cordes Pocket Guide to Animals / Tracks with Andy Diamond is well worth the money. This little book is a perfect, inexpensive gift for the outdoorsman/woman of all ages.

Our granddaughter wants to learn all about the outdoors and nature. Her favorite animal is the wolf, so, of course, she loves this book! It's filled with great information and illustrations.

I am a homeschool mom of 3 boys and this is one of my new favorite nature study tools. It is small but PACKED with all the different prints, and I love how the tabs make it quick and easy to find what we're looking for. My 7 year old can easily use it, and 3 and 5 year old brothers follow along. The lamination is wonderful for making this sturdy for our nature backpack. I would definitely recommend this.

There are so many 'pocket guides' out there that are nowhere near actual pocket size, unless all of your pockets are BDU cargo pockets. This one is truly pocket size! It measures ~3-5/8" (92mm) x 4-9/16" (115mm). The pages are reasonably thick plastic and the print looks and feels great. So far there are only two minor things that bug me. One is that the back of the book has '$12.95' written on it, so paying more than that feels wrong. And the page with ducks has multiple black and white drawings of ducks, but no prints. I get that most of the time you'll see ducks in water, but they do in fact leave prints on land often enough and it's sad there are no webbed prints shown. Generally though I find it to be an excellent item for carrying around in the field.

Nice and small guidebook. It's pretty much waterproof and has a good mixture of standard animal tracks. It's compact and durable. I don't have much experience in looking at tracks, but I have being working on recognizing animals in my local area. This is more of a hobby, so I will get to use this.

Got a few of these as stocking stuffers for the kids. They enjoy the outdoors and this keeps them engaged in the wilderness

I would see so many animal tracks after a fresh snow but didn't know what they belonged to. All I needed was this pocket guide! It's been fun to learn what has been walking through my yard and nearby areas during the night.

I thought it would be a little bigger but its nice. My son will like it.
