Years ago, I got a toy almost exactly like this for some friends when their baby turned one. They told me later it was the best toy they had received. It's quiet, it's washable, and it captivates their toddler.They said they moved it from room to room with them, for example, tying it to a doorknob so their son could be engaged while they were busy fixing dinner or hanging out in the kitchen.I recall it was the 'toy of the year' by a parenting magazine that rates toys, and I can see why.I got this one recently for a neighbor's one-year-old. I'm not sure it's the original, but it sure is close, and they love it. They tell me it took a while for their son to 'get it,' but once he did, he played well, feeding the pelican and watching what happens. They say it's supporting the 'cause and effect' stage of his learning.

This toy is neat and unique. My youngest (15 months old) is a huge fan of hiding things or taking them and seeing where they fit. It must be a developmental milestone because I'm always finding sippy cups of milk and food in very odd places. She is delighted with that game but I just can't share in the enthusiasm when I lose the game and find what she hid a few days later. Anyway, I was looking for a toy with a similar cause and effect concept to keep her entertained and we got this. She really likes it and I haven't found (or smelled) any disgusting food surprises lately so it must be working.The description says that it's 5 inches high but that's actually the height of the sea creatures. The pelikan itself is approximately 20 inches.What I don't like:There are just four toys to feed the pelikan. I feel that the price ($24.99 when we purchased) was rather high for what you actually receive. The quality and stitching is excellent, like all M&D toys we buy, but we like a little variety! :)One other thing that's rather annoying is that there is no structure inside of it so it slumps over. Having a weighted belly with some reinforcement in between the material on the sides would probably make this toy easier for little hands to play with.Overall though, it's a pretty cool toy and the kids like it.

I bought this for my son for Christmas and I have not given it to him yet, but I was so excited about it that I had to take it out and look at it myself before Christmas got here. This is the cutest toy ever! I love it. It is super colorful and cute and a good size. I like that it teaches them where the food goes and I am so excited to give it to him for Christmas. I love Melissa & Doug toys. I read a lot of the reviews before I bought it and a lot of people were saying it didn't stand up on its own, which it doesn't oh, but it is a plush toy with a hollow inside so I didn't expect it to. I think this is a great product

Such a cute face, but does not sit up like the picture shows. That makes it difficult for a child to play with.

I returned it because my granddaughter another one for her birthday! But she loves playing with the one she got. I highly recommend this toy to anyone who has a little one. Hours and hours of fun, hands on, colors, sounds, shapes, tactile learning. Just a great toy all around. This seller shipped hers quickly. Highly recommend this seller!
